Sydney Skills To Emerge Tonight
Sydney skills to emerge tonight
Charlie Payne
8th May 2010
MORANBAH and Whitsunday will debut new forwards when they go head-to-head in round three of the Skills Training Cup tonight.
Former Cronulla Sharks NRL player Jacob Selmes will run out for the Miners in their home game, while the Brahmans expect to play former South Sydney under-grade player Jack Burke, who arrived in the Whitsundays only this week.
Selmes, 24, played 18 NRL games for the Sharks in 2007 when he was the club’s Rookie of the Year, but Miners coach Craig Menkins said he suffered injury last year.
“He’s been playing in the South Coast of NSW at Dapto and he’s come up here to work,” Menkins said.
“He’s been here for a few weeks now and has trained with us.”
Selmes and Burke should be a good match, as they have similar physical build.
Selmes stands at 196cm (6ft 5ins) and weighs 118kg, while Burke is 193cm (6ft 4 ins) and 113kg.
