MapSports Jack Williams joins 2016 Premiers Cronulla Sharks
Canberra Raiders NYC Player of the Year, Jack Williams has agreed to terms with the Cronulla Sharks for the next 2 seasons. Williams who came through the NSW CRL system with the Cooma Stallions has been with the Raiders for 5 seasons and looks as this opportunity as a real positive in his development as a player. Standing 184cm and 98kg, Williams impressed all in the NRL Preseason where he finished 2nd in the fulltime squad testing in strength. An elusive and powerful edge backrow Williams will go into the Sharks system with a view to learn from senior stars like Luke Lewis as they enter the final stages of their careers.
When discussing the signing, new recruitment officer Grant Jones said that Williams had all the attributes of a special player, with plenty of power, speed, tackle breaking ability and good work ethic that saw him make an average of 33.8 tackles per game on the right edge for the Raiders in 2016. Jones added "We think there is a nucleus of a good NRL player in Jack. We as a group sat down and had a a look at his video and liked what we saw. The convincer was a standout performance against he Cronulla NYC side where he broke the line multiple times and scored a terrific long range try.
When we sat down with Jack, he was very clear about his direction moving forward, and with a young elite backrow at the Raiders in front of him it made sense to join a team on the up. The Sharks winning the competition will give the players a real lift and Jack is looking forward to joining the NRL Squad in Nov. "Yes, very excited" Williams added. I wasn't sure of where I would be playing next year but after meeting with Shane Flanagan and Steve Price they made it very clear there was a pathway for me at the Sharks and I look forward to getting up there and getting stuck into the hard work."
Everyone at MapSports wishes Jack the best for 2017 & 18.
