The thing is I can't blame fat fingers or auto correct. When he signed with us I misread his name as Jake, and once your brain reads it as something once, it continues to do so.

Deadset if I had met the bloke I would have said gday Jake. And if he was to say his name is actually Jack, I would have tried to correct him.

To be fair, the club captain also got his name wrong. Called him Jackson Bird, ie: name of a cricketer that's played a few games for Australia. Crap happens. =P

He does look the goods.

For Round 1 I'd have Flash, Feki, Beale, Bird and Holmes/Gagan.

Its funny how a few touches in the nines can change perceptions about our round 1 team.

I agree though, Bird looks to have ability and a tough edge to him.

Good trial form could see him slip ahead of Ricky.

Does this guy deserve to be in our team come round 1? If so what position?

While I don't like to take to much out of the nines as its a totally different ball game, I thought young bird showed plenty of signs he'd make a good centre, he backs himself and looks to set up his winger. Has a good offload on him as well

I'd like to see him partner beale in the centres, if not I think he'd make a great utility to have on the bench. If he doesn't get picked for first grade, playing centre for newtown for a bit won't hurt his progression

This thread sums up the OP

This post sums you up.

what a gun... our player of the tournament.

He was good but he was no Ayshford.

Fair dinkum what happened to Blake? Played like a champ, bounce of the ball went his way, refs even gave him a try in the final which wasn't and we never get that sorta luck.

Bird looked keen to get amongst it. I like that.

Not like 'I'll put up 36,000+ posts and you sift though the **** to find the worthy bits ' amongst it but contributes aswell.

EDIT: Can't have him on the bench though mate. lol he's not SBW (for the All Blacks) sort of athelete.

If his trial form backs up what we saw this weekend , he is a definite for the 17 as a minimum , and looking highly likely for a centre spot , which supports the coaching staffs high opinion of him.

How is he for pace? Would he be much quicker than Matthew Wright for example?

Yeah a good deal quicker than Matty Wright.

Speaking of Matty Wright but he had a decent show. I like seeing him do well. Give Wright an extra couple yards place the RL world is at his feet IMO.

Yeah he was much quicker than I expected. Looked a real good athlete and ran good lines when at centre.

I didn't really fall for the hype upon the signing, I like to wait until I see a bloke in action before naming them in my imaginary first teams! But damn, he was impressive.

Can't get too carried away though, let's just wait and see how he goes in the trials. Maybe he's just a 9's specialist like Ayshford. :drunk

Cheers, with all of the previous talk about him ending up in the forwards I didn't expect him to be overly quick. Good to hear.
