There's no question about it really, have a 9/10 backrow rather than a 10/10 one and have our outside backs rating go up by about 3.

The way I see if, we lose Jez and someone like Bukuya or Tupou makes the side. We get Izzy and some total nuffie misses out on making the team.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but in the Sunday papers up this way there is a Newcastle page where Barry Toohey bangs on about the Knights and local league. He mentioned again that the only thing holding the Jeremy Smith deal going through is the 100k the Sharks are wanting in return. No doubt we are willing to let him go it's just a matter of whether we are willing to take less compo. This is the second time in recent weeks Toohey has mentioned the deal is almost done bar the sticking point.

Yeah not questioning our unwillingness to let him go at all, just was expecting a few bites on my comment.

People seem to hate Folau for leaving league so I thought it might be a bit controversial. I think the majority of us would take up another job if we were getting a 50%+ increase in pay for less work.

I tend to think that there is considerable more work required to play AFL, than there is as a back in rugby league.

The things I would do for the pay check folau got. In all honesty we know the AFL didn't want him because he was going to be a superstar. They wanted him to get people to turn the game on. Never really watched AFL until Hunt & Folau joined up. So I guess it was worth all the $$$ spent.

Why do you think he went to afl?

My memory is a bit hazy, but I think he was on 500k when at Brisbane and is earning 1.5m at GWS. How many players do you think would knock that kind of money back? You can't blame him for going.

Indeed there's more running, no denying that. But I mean as far as games played. He's played of the year in the B-grade comp and when he does play for GWS he's hardly involved/on the field. He's an absolute colossus compared to most AFL players so he isn't taking as much of a beating physically either.

Especially knowing that he can come back to the NRL at the age of 24/25 and enter his prime.
