i think the sharks will win comp this year because we have best forward pack.
good halves may need a little time to gel, but when they do look out.
the likes of gallen reni and toopu will provide plenty off loads for pommeroy kearney etc
smart experienced hooker
great defence
both manly and melbourne lost quality players
we only lost bird but replaced him with toopu and reni, leaving our back row stronger than last year.
peek and nutley gone, but we still have best forward pack

dont mean to put you down there champ but i would not get carried away, yes we have good forward pack but look at manly? take a look at bulldogs? i know they might seem disadvantaged but anything is possible... if we talk up forward packs i'd say Manly-Bulldogs-Dragons they have good packs... although i agree with you i think sharkies are the most solid looking team but still i wont get carried away... GO YA SHARKIES

If only I had a dollar for every time I have heard someone say "I think the Sharks will win the comp this year"! Even so Go Sharks, your eternal optimism in the face of adversity is to be applauded, and encapsulates the very essence of what it is to be a long-suffering follower of the legendary Black White and Blue! ;)

both storm and the eagles lost a grand final the last 3 years before they won one....

im a pathological optimist..... we will get the job done this year (go ricky)..

the problem i have is that i was a huge noddy fan (then we let him go to the dogs) then i like many jumped on the birdy is a demi god bandwagon (we all know how that played out) so now im going to be cheering for simo as much as gals and not pick eny particular player...
p.s. have a secret man crush on the 09 coach of the year ricky....

read today that the knights were chasing simmons & missed out . . . I think he's a great finisher, plenty of speed & ricky must be a fan to pick him every week! surely our woes can't be blamed on one man!

Ok.....you've been following the Sharks for how long now?:confused: I'm going to say since last year maybe!:D How many times have we had the best team in the comp, only to come up without even a Grand Final appearance? Man, don't even go down this road my friend, for it is a road that only leads to pain. It will see you curled up and quivering in the foetal position, muttering "No, no, please not again! Someone make it stop! This cannot be happening again. WHY WON'T IT STOP HAPPENING??!!" Then the men in the white coats come in...at least that's what I hear, er...happened to someone else.

ironshark i have been supporting sharks for 32 years, i may be getting carried away but i think we have our best team in years and the only 2 teams that finished above us last year are much weaker. lets look at them 1` at time melbourne lost both isarel and crocker both big loses plus others. and manly lost menzies plus others. plus i think we have a stronger team than last year. so ironshark who do you think will win comp.

part of being a sharks supporter is the optimism.keep it up.

the other part of being a sharks supporter is the crushing dissapointment towards the end of the season.

i've learnt to live with both.

Optimism 1, Pessimism about six or more. Gee, us Sharks supporters know the disappointments don't we?

It is early days and it only takes two of our stars to get injured and Barrett to pull a heart muscle and we're back with the bunch.

But I can't wait for the season to start. Lets see how the boys go in the trials first and get some combinations going.

I didn't say we couldn't win the comp, I just said not to get your hopes up too high as history has been cruel to us in the past. I don't think Manly are any weaker this year, despite the loss of Menzies, he was at the end of his career anyway. Who else have they lost that you rate? They have also bought well, with the likes of big Tony Williams on the wing. I think they are probably joint favourites with the Broncos, who are going to have a red hot team, once again:mad:, with the purchase of Folau. These will be the two teams to beat, IMO.

I agree Melbourne have been weakned considerably since last season and won't be the dominant force they have been.

We've got a 1 in 16 chance like every other team.

It takes a lot more than just having a good team to win an NRL Premiership.

There is no way we have the best forward pack at all. Our second row, on paper, is hot sh!t, but Manly have the best forward pack and a few others are better than ours too. Manly are not weaker. They lost Menzies, who while a legend, is on the wrong side of 30 and Manly would have won the comp last year without him. He played majority of the season off the bench anyway from memory. They recruited a monster in Tony Williams and also picked up Bailey from the Knights who is a handy 5/8th, meaning they can leave Lyon in the centres where he is best and Orford will have a solid halves partner.

Melbourne are a bit weaker, but they're still choc a block full of stars. You never write off a team with Inglis, Slater, Smith, Cronk etc. on its roster. Melbourne would have run away with the minor premiership for a 3rd year in a row in 2008 if it weren't for State of Origin where they were forced to field a mix of reggies and NYC players against struggling teams.

It'll be another good competition in 2009 and I believe our Sharks can do well. But they're no more of a chance than any other team if you ask me.
