Say the Sharks have around 1.275M to spend on 4 marquee signings for next season. Who do you sign? One catch, you must sign the 4 players in these divided categories.

1 player in the 400k+ bracket
1 player in the 250k-350k bracket
2 players in the 200-250k bracket

Who would you sign? Note, only off-contract players are avaliable and all storm players. Also, you cannot go over the 1.25M limit on your 4 signings. Here are my choices:

400k+ brackets- Cooper Cronk @ 600k a season for 4 years.

Cooper brings exactly what the Sharks have lacked during the last 2 seasons, a consistent leader in the halves that can carry his team and create opportunities easily. Rather than loving to take the line on like Barrett, he is more about creating the chances.

250k-350K bracket Michael Gordon @ 275K a season for 3 years.

Great goal kicker, very quick on his feet (see him gain ground when chasing Hayne.) and is entering his prime as a winger. Versatile in the fact that he can play centre.

200k-250k bracket Sika Manu @ 200K a season for 3 years & Dane Neilson @ 200K a season for 3 years.

Sika brings that impact and more grunt in the pact that is needed. He is a great metre gainer and gives 100% in every hit-up/tackle.
Neilson is a defensive specialist centre that is big and tall. Still very young and has a handy fend that has seen him gain extra meters this season.

My team for the 2011 season would then read:
1. Gardner
2. M.Gordon
3. Neilson
4. Collis
5. I.Gordon
6. Kelly
7. Cronk
8. Snowden
9. Morris
10. Douglas
11. Millington
12. Tupou
13. Gallen

14. Vave
15. Mannah
16. Sika Manu (As an impact 2nd rower to bring off Millington & Tupou)
17. Aiton

That team would reach the top 8 I think. Other names that I thought of were the likes of Adam Blair, Wade Graham, Steve Matai but I feel this is the best mix of players avaliable.

Who do you choose?

Note: We are able to spend that amount of money due to players being let go such as Baz, Ferguson, R.Williams, Covell, Bukuya, Cuthbo etc. Not to mention, the cost cutting measures should allow the club to spend a little more cash on players.

Drag Queen territory.
1) $400k = Greg Inglis for $650k/year for 5 years
I went for Inglis over Cronk purely because I think we need a player like Inglis more right now - someone who will pack out the stadium and make us a relevant club again. Plus, it's not like we've got great centres as it is. And we'd make up his contract in sponsorship and gate takings anyway.

2) $400k = Wade Graham at $225/year for five years
We need halves, Graham is a good young talent there. Not sure about his ability to organise a team, but I doubt he could do a worse job than Smith.

3) $200k = Steve Matai at $200/year for 3 years, Brett Kimmorley at $200/year for one year.
I went for Noddy because as much as I love Kelly, I'm not sure if he's 100% ready to play regular first grade yet so I'd like to have him back to act as sort of a mentor to AK for a year or so.
Matai because we need centres as well.

5 Year deal?
No way.
That is a serious pension package.
Look at Campese. He signed a 5 year deal and he is in no way as good as he was before his deal.

There should be no reason to sign someone over 3 years unless it's Gallen.

I hate hypotheticals. The only "hypothetical" is that we sign no-body and are forced to re-sign the likes of Covell. Oh wait, did I just see the future.

Johnathon Thurston for $600k/year for 3 years.
Hes arguably the best player in the NRL he is injury prone but has a great boot and would add some serious depth to our side.

Michael Gordon $250k/year for 3 years.
What a stunning player, he plays good week in, week out, has some good first grade experience and also blues experience.

Lote Tuqiri $200k/year for 2 Years.
Playing some outstanding footy for the tigers, watching him tonight just wishing we had someone like him!

Ben Barber $200k/year for 2 Years.
If only he would take a 200k deal from us! What a but he would be, hes got skill, a good boot and some pace!

3 of those player are not off contract
