Just around the corner from the Bateman's Hotel in George Street where rugby league was born in 1907, a small group of legends and entrepreneurs met on Thursday morning to put the finishing touches on a revolutionary $15 million proposal for an historic Kangaroos v Wallabies hybrid game.

The plan will be put to NRL boss David Gallop and his ARU counterpart John O'Neill within two weeks to stage the game at ANZ Stadium after next year's NRL grand final. When the game was mentioned in your Sunday column a couple of weeks ago, we had two corporations ring about hospitality opportunities the next day."

Ticket sales, corporate hospitality, international broadcasting rights and merchandise opportunities would deliver an estimated $15 million to be waved in front of the codes.

Players would be offered as much as $100,000 for the one-off appearance.

A handful of rugby league players and their agents have already been privately approached. In England, Billy Slater apparently told one of the promoters: "Don't start without me." And Darren Lockyer joked: "I could make a comeback."

The consortium organising the hybrid games stayed in the same hotel as the Kangaroos in Leeds on the Four Nations tour.

They believe getting player support is the key to making it happen because of the reluctance of administrators to even consider such an event.http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/...worth-15-million/story-e6frf3ou-1226205948946

or the best of both, the dominance of the kangaroos would help cancel out the kiwis union dominance and would be a great match to watch.

Just give the Wallabies Inglis to play inside centre, Slater to play wing and Hayne to play fullback and they'd have the All Blacks covered.

Gal would have made a great prop in union.

An extra 15kgs of fat and he would do a job!

How good would hayne be at fullback in union? He seems to have everything a good one needs!

Both Inglis and Hayne would be dynamite because they're such powerful runners who can also ballplay and have huge kicks. Inglis at 12 or 13 would be a revelation. Hodges would have made a superb 13 too.

Stupid idea hybrid games.

Union has been jacking ideas off League for years, i however am going to call for the end of this kicking deliberately dead for the 20 metre restart. They stopped that in Union years ago like in 1995. If a ball is kicked dead it goes back to the spot where the opposing player kicked it for a scrum.

It's not the backs we have to worry about it's the power of All Blacks pack that always ****s us over

Gal would be a better a flanker , he is fit and stocky and would create havoc at breakdowns

This is the stupidist idea ever and I don't understand how it will help Rugby League in any way.

Rugby Union fans all already watch League anyway (they just don't admit it), and a lot of League fans have no interest in watching Union (myself included).

If they play a hybrid match they'll basically be creating a third version of Rugby, which would create a whole new sport altogether. If it’s a good product an entrepreneur could come along and create a whole new regular season competition with the new rules and effectively create a new sport with which Rugby League and Union would have to compete with.

I just can't see it happening TBH.
