Yed I have had a few to drink.

AFL is the bigger sport in Australia, Why?
Cause AFL rewards mediocrity, almost succeeding but not quiet getting there. You try to kick a goal you got close here have a point.

So maybe if you get inside the oppostions half you get 2 points cause we can see what you are trying to do you didnt succeed but thats okay, keep ya chin up champ.

And thats how we will rise to the top again!

Ahhhhhh the argument that will live forever, just like the death penalty and religion, afl vs nrl.

Asking most victorian fans why nrl is such a minority and failing to keep up with afls dominance, and most answered with
" rugby league is so predictable, you kick the ball, someone catches it, they run it back, and then 4 tackles later they will kick it and someone will catch it and the process starts again, and it happens over and over and over and over.
Afl is so unpredictable, a running game that goes anywhere at anytime"

now hitman say-

I completelty understand why league fans cant stand afl, league is a game of posession and field position- thats everything in league.
Afl, posession isnt everything, field position isnt everything, its working through zones, going side to side and sometimes conceding ground. When the ball gets turned over constantly and field position gets conceded at a regular basis, it throws nrl fans right off thinking `how stupid is this?`

Bag afl all you want, but the afl has sponsers throwing themselves at them, and league has them continuely pulling out.

Afl also is a much more professional league, not doing exhibition matches like state of origin where the best players from a side, will leave the team that pays them 6 figures, let the members and supporters know they are off to play in a competition that is much more important to them and risked bieng injured for the rest of the season.
If that is not the biggest slap in the face for members and supporters I dont know what is.
Nrl isnt ran efficiently or professionally, move over gallop, put price in asap.

To me AFL is just like Soccer, Basketball, Hockey etc. The core of these games is very similar, and I don't really find it interesting at all.

I like the concept of the line in NRL. It's the main reason I like it. It's why it is the best sport in the world bar none.

thats it mark, the line is everything, and I mean everything in the game, its amazing how it generates so much excitement, but it works.

Afl has no line, thats why its hated by 99 percent of leagueys which i understand.

I grew up bieng brainwashed, bieng lead to believe that afl is the one and only true australian sport, and rugby and rugby league(everyone here gets the two confused) were a small minority.
I was completely shocked when I first went to brisbane and realised that league is dominant, and afl is minority, and at first I hated the idea, but now I love it, I wish I grew up in nsw or qld so I could have played league all my life, instead of afl which only suits small, athletes who are more suited to long distances, rather than anaerobic threshold as needed in league.

Any way to answer your question mate, I dont have an afl team, I wouldnt call myself a passionate supporter at all, there are some teams that I hate and like to see lose but thats about it.

The one and only team I support is the sharks mate, I havent taken off my sharks 70`s jersey for 3 days now haha, Its a shame I cant wear my black away jersey anymore due to the lg logo, because I really like the colour haha.

Oi! Don't take this off topic. The discussion isn't about what game is better and why. We're here to respond to dier's drunken stupidity;

I'm assuming you're sober now mate. Does dishing out two points every time the halfway line is crossed still sound like a good idea?

We've already got a line you need to cross to get points.

Adapting our on field product to incorporate aspects of AFL's on field product is not the answer to a more successful code.

It was a Joke. Obviously not everyone has a great sense of humor like me. I was making fun of afl and how the give points for gettin close to the objective which is to kick goals.

I was not serious, Geez I though someone might of picked that up.

I think the simplest thing to do to fix most of the problems in the NRL is to set up a system wher by local juniors are exempt from salary cap calculations or at the least only have a percentage of their salaries used in the calculations.

I think the term "local" would have to be changed in concept to mean "feeder" club. The way I reckon it would work is that each club would nominate what junior clubs are in their catchment... and that may not necessarily be in their own local area.

I believe this sort of system would:

* encourage teams to retain players
* foster much needed club loyalty
* increase the "team" mentality
* provide a consistency to the fans
* improve the development of junior League
* strengthen regional junior Rugby League
* strengthen the link between players and the community
* reinforce player to club to fan accountability

... and a whole host of other benefits.

The fundamental problem with Rugby League in my eyes is that the ARL (and their premier competition the NRL) seem to be always looking at "Business Models" and "Product Strategies" from other sports and enterprises and not concentrating on improving the quality of the game - they're so pre-occupied with the concept of a NATIONAL Rugby League competition that they've lost sight of the fact that the game is Territorial (both on the field... and to the fans) and as such, it should be developed and promoted that way.

The reason why State of Origin is so successful and attract such major dollars to it is that it really exemplifies the "US" & "THEM" mentality... and afterall, sn't that what the game is all about?

Club officials need to spend less time in the Board Room or with Consultants and more time out there developing the future of the game.

fitz, I don't think many up and coming players affect the salary cap too much. I like your idea but I think instead the salary cap should apply less to players that have played for a club for a certain amount of time.

So for example let's say it's a 5% bonus each year.

Say Gallen was paid 200k per season. Well next season he can be paid 210k and only 200k of it affects our salary cap. Then the year after he can be paid another 5 percent and so on. Once you leave a club that goes out the window and you're back to square one.

New clubs could be given some concession for example having 5 years of this discount incorporated into their first 5 years. So players at new clubs instantly get the 5 years of increases in the first season but that doesn't increase during the 5 years, then 6 year it's another 5% and so on.
