Imagine he’s a budget squad filler
Appeal of returning to play with his bro likely kept us from needing to pay any extra to get him to relocate

I assume Williams out moves Takakai and JC up 13 depth chart and Hohepa comes in underneath them
I think it is a smart signing. If we end up letting Atkinson go, he becomes a good bench option being able to cover a host of positions.

Only issue is it’s only 1 year.
IMO the kid is exactly what we need in the squad.

It would make sense if he wants to keep playing with his brother. Both of them will be available for 2026.

This past season he played all 27 matches for Canberra’s NSW Cup side, recording seven tries, three try-assists, eight line-breaks and 41 tackle-busts.

He also led the competition with 1,021 tackles at 92.9 per cent efficiency, and finished fifth for run metres with 3,383 (125 on average).

Sounds like a pretty decent player. Wonder why he wasn’t given a go at the raiders.

He had an option to stay in Canberra but chose not to take it up

Can’t blame him, seems clear he wasn’t going to be given much of a shot if he had those other plodders ahead of him.

Also it’s Canberra and playing with your brother again would be an attractive thing.

He’s still smaller than the average forward… same build as Niwhai (his twin). On the Raiders forum they mentioned he may be a bit susceptible to getting KO’d while tackling

Nicely written opinion:

Right now Canberra could use what Puru offers. If you’ve read any of the above links then goddamnit you know we do.

Do we need passing and creativity through the middle third? Yes, and guess who offers it?

Do you need more agility, more pace, and more dynamism from a middle forward. Yes, and you know who can do that.

Do we have someone that gets through a mountain of work in defence and will still hit a carry at speed? You and I both know a guy.

Do we need the cool head of leadership?

What about the guy already identified by all and/or sundry (and the club) as a leader? It seems so painfully obvious that I’m looking for the twist.

And another couple from the same author:

So, what I am reading into here is that Hohepa writes for “The Sportress” under the alias of “Dan”
