Started his first grade career as a fullback but it wasn't long before he switched to the forwards. Since that switch he has become one of the best lock-forwards in the game and can also play soundly in the second-row.
Burst into the international scene after Cronulla's great season in 1973 when he went on the Kangaroo tour. Since then he has been a fixture in Australia's international squads although he has had to live in the shadow of Ron Coote. Now that Coote has announced his retirement from representative football, Pierce is the prime contender for the job.
