I don’t agree with the penalty on May, but I’m not going to shed any tears for a Panther who cops a suspension.

Bigger concern is the NRL’s habit of changing the rules on the fly during the season. Are all head clashes penalties now, or just ones on their golden boys? Should McInnes have shown more duty of care when tackling Faarmasili?

Very concerning trend in the NRL the last 2-3 years. Hurt a star player legally and you are punished more than if you illegally hurt a scrub.

Scrubs need the money more than the stars do Pete. Let’s try to keep them safe too.

Duty to bend to make contact. So you bend and take your eye of the tackle and get it wrong and you shoulder someone in the head.
That’s the most ridiculous explanation of a rule I’ve ever heard
Proper tackle technique is head down with chin up / eyes up. If a player can't bend and tackle while still having their eyes up.

Not sure I agree with the explanation from the ref/bunker.

Did you miss the replay?

Looked like both of May’s feet were in the air. Looked very reckless on May’s part.
Is this a rule mate? Has the bunker used "feet off the ground" in a ruling before? Serious question.

It has be completely flabbergasted that the NRL refuse to incentivise well executed 1-on-1 low tackles (let them hold on for longer). Concussion fight is all stick and no carrot.

I’ve noticed that the bunker will mostly air on the side of the on-field refs call.

There are clearly “knocked backwards” knock-ons but bunker doesn’t over rule the ref (unless absolutely blatant)

"It was an accident"

lol what a surprise. Ivan is like that.

Also not a surprise to see more inconsistency from nrl (not that I think May should’ve been banned, but Finucane was)

Feet off the ground is grounds for reckless tackle isn’t it? Or is that only brought into consideration with judiciary rulings and not live game play?

Edit; I'm almost certain I've heard a ref cite feet leaving the ground as part of a decision to bin a player before

I don’t know. That’s why I asked. Didn’t realise it was a thing.

Ahh, I'm genuinely curious as well. It's obviously been heard by a few us before but suppose could just be media buzzwords as well

Did some Googling. Was mentioned by the judiciary in the Wade Graham suspension rd1 last year that he left his feet which caused a dangerous angle of approach. There was also a JWH one on Ponga where they mentioned it.

I also found other references though to guys being suspended for careless high tackles when leaving their feet. Kennedy in 2022 was one.

So in 2 minutes of research it seems that it’s something that might be considered by the judiciary, but leaving your feet doesn’t necessitate a charge of “reckless”.

Obviously now that I have done 2 minutes of research I have a full and comprehensive view on the topic. 😂

Hopefully others can shed some light.

Broncos came through security screening at airport with their tails between their legs this morning, but as reported, no sign of Reece due to his injury. Being driven back to Brissy.
