I was going to suggest you go to bed mate as it's a school night - but my kids reminded me it's school holidays.
I'm in Queensland. School is back tomorrow. My Son is a teacher so it's not good for him but I'm retired so I don't care. I'm off for a drive to Canungra tomorrow. There is a terrific pie shop there.

Mt Tambourine is beautiful this time of year.

I don't blame Dessy, going via the press conference he thinks the refereeing performance wasn't up to standard himself & said he thinks the NRL will review it themselves. I wonder whether he'll put a foot forward himself if they don't review it themselves next few days.

The referring was ****ing appalling.

How a fkn tunnel who has never played the game can be a decent ref is beyond me.
Mate, the last thing I want to be is sexist & say she should never be able to referee a game but from what I saw & my opinion, that was appalling. There are male referees who are certainly the same aswell anyway, just as bad. We'll see what happens over the next few days before the teams & referees are named on Tuesday arvo.

To single out a referee because she’s female is a bit rich I think. I’ve actually seen a lot of comments on other social platforms that say she showed the men up tonight.

It all comes down to opinion on how good she is and everyone is entitled to theirs. But to bring gender into it is archaic in my opinion.

I’m definitely not saying she was any worse than any of the other refs.
And gender has nothing to do with it in my opinion.

it’s the “consistency“ that is lacking across the whole group, including the linesmen/women , refs and bunker collectively (and the bunker has the least excuse as they are sitting in a comfy chair watching ssssllllloooooowwwww motion replays to determine if a bees dick touched the ball or not!

im most critical of the bunker as they should have no excuses.
The linesmen/women and refs have to make a call instantly and without the aid of hindsight (which the bunker has from the replays).
Can they be better?
Not sure, but at least be consistent.

How did Klemmer stay on the field? Round 1 he is straight to the bin for that second head high

Seems like interpretations/rules/lenience has changed again?
Because NRL

I was interesting in having a quick look at PTB speeds across the weekend.
(The letter denotes which game it was, I worked through backwards though)

3.37 Storm G
3.37 Knights H
3.40 Dogs G
3.41 Broncos F
3.41 Warriors E
3.43 Cowboys D
3.46 Titans A
3.47 SeaEagles E
3.47 Tigers B
3.49 Eels D
3.50 Rabbitohs C
3.51 Dragons B
3.52 Dolphins F
3.54 Roosters H
3.56 Sharks C
3.62 Raiders A

Time disparity by game
A .16
B .04
C .06
D .06
E .06
F .11
G .03
H .17

So Raiders were afforded the slowest PTB of the weekend and the second biggest disparity from what their opponents experienced.

On that alone it makes sense the ref would find more issue in Titans rucks than theirs.

If anyone wants to dig deeper into proving or disproving anything here go for it. Just a very surface look.
Burgo I know this is far far from an exact science don’t come at me I don’t care haha

Ptb speed can also be an indicator of game flow. E.g. lots of ball in play, floating bombs to wingers etc. might produce a few slower ones.

Warriors according to Cheese are a deliberate bip team. Would be interesting to see if the ptb speeds in their games is higher/lower on average.

A, F and G probably warrant a look. Not sure the others are enough difference to really matter… or maybe watch games B and G and see if there is any difference in flow, stoppages, line breaks etc.

@bort you misunderstand me when I respond to these ones mate. I’m not saying “these stats suck”. I’m saying “how can we make them more useful?”.

Thinking about ptb speed, it would take more work but I reckon looking at the ptb speed of the 4-5 highest minute middles would be a good start. Those guys are going to combine for 200-ish minutes so shouldn’t give a good cross section and also account for any “starters went off and benchie went down” situations.

Watching the Sharks in detail I don’t think 2nd ptb speed is useful. They take too
Many “oh **** we are near the sideline give it to Teig” runs and get monstered through no fault of their own.

No I understand just something like the “it would take more work” is exactly the kind of thing I knew you’d suggest which I won’t be doing haha

And ends up only getting fines for both. This sport really is a joke.

NRL is like going to a Theatre to watch a serious documentary about Adolf Hitler but instead out walks Charlie Chaplin

Player safety is fluid - how important a players safety matters depends on the time of year and how many yellow cars Annesley spotted on the way to work that week
