I don't think players are more careful, they just let more stuff go. Flops, inside the 10m, offsides and slowing down the play the ball penalties just disappear... Adam 'six again' Gee only blew 1 for the whole game.
Agree , he actually put the whistle to his lips several times but didn't blow it or maybe was too fatigued for anything to come out.

Heard was a massive stink and JAC got flatlined.

There's a massive stink every year - very passionate blokes going at each other during the heat of spring

It's not run by the NRL so I dunno how being reported / punished works and if that plays a role but there is non NRL players involved anyway I believe

Gotta give props to Adam Gee in that one, too. Good reffing. Stayed out of it.

Duty of care to players matters....

....unless it's Origin or the Grand Final, then it's about flow and entertainment

I didn't mind the way Adam reffed it - he did pretty well and it allowed for a high intensity, tough, fast and entertaining contest. There wasn't really any controversy or major balls ups by the officials so that's a relief for them and for the fans.

But it's the opposite of how it's done during the regular season. A shoulder to the head is punished in any other NRL game so I think the NRL's stance on player safety is bit of a cop out at times.

Be interesting if anything comes of it from the post match review.

Sounds like JAC being high shotted may have sparked the brawl rather than he was knocked out in the fight.

Some members of the other team were apparently also badly behaved on the drink that night and then started calling people white supremacists for cutting them off.
Seems like maybe at least some of that team haven't approached the tournament with a good attitude

We should seriously bring Barba back
Considering how little the punishment seems to be for coke these days, it's a bit of a shame.

That said, a bit of blow is the least of Barba's indiscretions.

Yeah would hurt a bit more if it wasn't for his other behaviours.
Also he knew the risks and decided to take them.
