He is again at least the second best player in our team.

That's why '08 was a great chance missed

dumb thread

Might be a dumb thread but it's true.

Sadly true because we have no one on his level and also shows how one dimensional our team is. Yesterday illustrated this no end. He "felt" like he had to do everything. And if he is our " go to " guy we are in trouble for a long time.

In '08 bird was our go to guy. Gallen was great back then but overall the team was better. Our team is way out of balance in terms of ability.

You can't put pressure on the opposition defence when we are not using any options other than gal. There is so much more to this thread it's not funny.

Gallen would be the best player in most teams. He will only be the second best player on our team if he hangs around 2 or 3 seasons too long (2030).

Your missing the point. I know gal Is a great player, one of the worlds best. But to be more effective he has to do less. Our team needs more options than gal. Everyone raves about his workload and yes he carries 15 guys on his back 5 m . But for the team that does little. He would be better if he could be isolated on one or 2 defenders. Which comes back to the point we need a better attacking option

I agree with the premise of this thread, but for the first time I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is Gal. (dodges lightning bolt).

More specifically, his feeling that he needs to do everything. Maybe he just needs to trust his teammates a bit more.

Might be a dumb thread but it is exactly true.
Until we have a dominant half or a Greg Bird like forward in the team who can control Gallen then this team wont get any better.

Ive said this numerous times, as great as Gal is he hinders the team because he does too much and plays 4 roles in the team. He is not playing smart at all.

Gus Gould commented a couple of times and he is exactly right. Gallen doesnt need to hit the ball up twice every set. You think there is no one else who wants to run? He should save himself and really do a damaging run.

He also over plays trying to be a play maker. He nearly murdered poor Gardener a couple of times by having a pre-conceived play in his mind which was easliy read by the opposition. He used to do it early last year with a rap around play involving Albert Kelly, that never worked once.

You gotta to just play whats evolving in front of you instead or relying on pre-planned plays all the time. Gallen doesnt get this.

One of the biggest problems with this squad is the lack of 'footy players'. Theres no one there apart from Gardner and possibly Kelly who can just play whats in front of them. And those two guys just do it athletically rather than smarts. There is bugger all footy smarts in this squad.

Because he's not a playmaker.

Look, we all love Gal here. But Flanno has got to give him a role on the team that suits his skills. This current game plan of "just give the ball to Gallen" isn't working, simple as that.

Either we move him to prop, or use him more out wide. Or we move Graham into the forwards to play the Greg Bird role.

Wade has the footy smarts, he's shown it with Penrith and glimpses with us. Unfortunately his more obvious weaknesses (Specifically, his kicking game) are made into a bigger deal than they should be.

He probably does have smarts but why arent we seeing them?

Tell me something, why cant we score those basic tries where you see the halves going across or just passing to a guy hitting a hole or running a good angle who busts through and scores. Other halves do it week after week. Its just basic one pass to a runner at a hole.

You then take it to the next level and go out out wider using decoys with 2 or 3 passes to a guy running a good line.

They are just basic effective plays which score tries. Why arnt our guys doing this?

I made a comment in another thread our attack is too predictable. 4th tackle in each set is usually Gal taking a hit up. As much as I love the bloke at our club and his effort, I would prefer he occasionally ran as a decoy, as he naturally draws players because he is so hard to bring down. This may open things up for the backs to express themselves and keep our opponents guessing a bit more

Gal gets in the play far too much for mine does not give, or let any clean ball get wide on the rare occasion they attemp it.
