An unbiased opinion is what is required here.
My vote would go to Bird.
Gallen is a good player & an essential part of your side this year but Bird has that natural aggression & untapped potential at club & representative level.
How Gallen got MOM yesterday is anyones guess & he did have a good game but so did Seymour.

I thought Gals was best on ground.

the bigger your name gets the more selectors and commentators notice you at the expense of your team mates
in saying that he played well
i just hope he does the right thing and donates some of the brut prize money to a good cause, some brut products for greg bird! :D

speeking of commentators Rabs hasn't called the sharks for a while and he still mispronounces Kearney's name, Dalley had to tell him

Bird and Gallen are not the same type of players. Bird is a more skillfull player has a bit of glass about him where as gallen is more a run in bass the operstions but both have a good offload in them as well they can both pull of a big hit. But all in all they are as good aas each other.

look i reckon they're both as good as eachother at the moment, they seem to be able to compliment eachother perfectly, that is they both make up for what eachother lacks, however in comming years id expect bird to be the one getting continually better whilst gallen would tend to plateau out a bit

rabs also said that this game was the most entertaining sharks game he has seen in a long while..least we know our attack is on the right track now..

rabs hasn't seen many sharks games in the last 30 years because the T.V station is biast towards crap teams like Parra, Souths etc.. which pisses me off a bit

Well, since the thread asks the question, here is my probably contoversial opinion.

Gallen, having a little more experience and being the toughest player in the game, is currently a little better than Bird. Bird is capable of more brilliance, but Gallen (despite having worse hands) is more consistent. He is almost always in the best two or three on the field, and even when the Sharks play poorly he plays well.

In all likelihood, Bird will become a better player- Gallen could be one of the great tough men of a generation, which is pretty cool (like Clyde, Lazarus and Webke), but the super star halves become the best players of all (Johns, Fittler, Lockyer).

They are both in my top 10 in the NRL (off the top of my head) so it is great that we can watch both play for the Sharks.

at this stage i would def have to say bird.
he's going to be a great player.

gallen is exceptional but i cant see too much more from him than what he's already got, whereas bird is still improving and developing his game.his kicking game keeps improving which is one area he is a bit weak on.
i really think he's a 5/8 as well.
