After this recent doping issue one of my good mates who is a massive Essendon Bombers fan has adopted the sharks as his team in the NRL. He came to the game on the weekend, bought a scarf and polo and fell in love with the club and players automatically.

I will be returning the favour and jumping on board as a bombers fan.

After looking at the bombers website i saw something extremely interesting and proactive by the club.

They call it the flight plan to raise funds. Im not saying we need to raise funds because we will fold because of the drugs but it would be great for the fans to be part of something rather than just buying membership (i have 4)

I have always been big on the club using an interactive and goal setting approach to increasing revenue. Obviously the club has some pressing issues at the moment but its not hard to set up a website to collect funds.....

Does anyone think this would work?

If DI was still chairman I would donate to something like this.

Why wouldnt you do it for someone else?

I ve thought for years that the club should have something like this set up or a direct debit system of members/supporters willing to contribute. 1000 people at $20 a month. $20,000, easy money to pay for a couple of salaries or go towards equipment.

Football is the new age religion, so why shouldn't we donate some of our wage? Makes sense

Sigh.

I've been banging on about this for yonks. But yeah mate, I dunno why they don't do it. For the cost of some marketing you could have significant extra discretionary funding.

I'll try and find the thread I started when I get home. It had some good news pieces about how the Western Bulldogs and Demons used that method to stave off bankruptcy and become (slightly) more successful, at least off the field.

We've had a number of threads / discussions about this AB. We've also raised money using this forum before as most would know.

We don't need to make it a periodical payment setup only model though - casual donations should be welcome too - but I do think there should be a specific fund raising item & target specified each time

Because I trust DI would spend it wisely. Look at the track record of other CEO's and chairmen that have run Cronulla in the past. Would you give them money? What makes you think the next guy will be any better than them?

I fear the opportunists that will come on board now, particularly given how retarded our fan base obviously is. They'll no doubt vote for some idiot that talks well and promises big.

Can't us fans be a sponsor? How much does it cost to be a sleeve sponsor?? It probably sounds stupid but just curious??

How good were the ice vests!!
Exactly three projects like that a year would go a long way! The bombers have raised 800k for their project. They do have 44,000 members but I think we could aim at 100k a year. Or the club could.... This has to be club lead.

Is it the sharks you support or DI???

Personally it's a cronulla sharks jersey I were.. It's the sharks team I watch each weekend ... It's the sharks club which if folded would get me like loosing a family member

I thought DI was one of the best things possible for the club but I don't get this pitting his side against the club.its ok to be pissed off about it but to act like he is more important than the club...no ... Not from loyal fans .. Not from him either I bet!!!

Maybe read the post in this thread where I explained it.

As for the ice vests? Are they still in use? How often are they used? I remember seeing them that first game but can't recall seeing them since.

What I don't get is why people attribute all success, all failure- in fact, all decisions- to the Chairman. I'm sure he himself would argue that no Board decision was his alone.
