Mako Shark
I managed to catch the last part of the Jersey Flegg match, and fortunately it provided at least one positive for the night.
With the scores tied at 16-all with twenty minutes to go, the Sharks looked set on capitulating, letting in two soft tries to the Magpies, giving Wests a 26-16 lead with around ten minutes on the clock.
Enter winger, Tu'u Maori. The man with the big afro got the ball on the half-way line, on the western side of the field, and with a combination of speed, strength and evasive skills, beat a number of Wests defenders to score near the scoreboard. It was his third try of the night. Half-back, Quincy To'o To'o (according to Aaron Raper on radio last week, both Tu'u and To'o are pronounced simply as 'too') converted to take it to 26-22.
The forwards really picked up in the last ten minutes. Rhys Lovegrove again showed he is one to watch with some incisive charges, while Jeremy Latimore, despite being absolutely smashed in one tackle, also played well.
With the Cronulla pack making plenty of ground, Maori made another small break down the western side, to help get the Sharks near the try line. From ten metres out, five-eighth Zac Mullane found former South Sydney junior, Travis Robinson, running perfectly into a gap in the eastern corner. Robinson ran around to score about 15m wide of the posts. To'o To'o handled the pressure, converting the try to give the Sharks a last-minute victory.
Without a program I couldn't identify all the players, and twenty minutes is not a great time to assess players on. As one of the most hyped, Brackin Henry looked confident at full-back. He obviously needs more experience (with some dancing on the spot type runs), but he looked very sharp at times. Switching him to full-back would seem to be a good move by Raper.
That's twice I've watched Flegg this season, and twice they've won in the dying minutes- I think I'll get there early more often!
