Does Merrit deserve a NSW wing spot?

Yup plus Merrit won't have the space he is often afforded by his South's team in the Club level competition.

Anyone watch the Souths game against Brissy few weekends ago? Merrit did nothing. Souths still won though...

Mundine should be thankful as this provided him with the motivation to become a professional boxer and the upstanding public speaker that he is.

P.S. David Peachey was selected for Origin. Maybe Mundine had an incompatible attitude...
Mundine did play Origin (whole 1999 series) he's just a whinging prick. He didn't get it his way so he wasn't happy.

Nope. He played 3 games for NSW in the Super League series. Never played real origin
Played one in 2000 and would have played more if it wasn't for bad luck with the timing of injuries.

Winning try at that according to wiki?
This was the single greatest moment of my life to this date. Just a shame he never scored the winning try in a grand final for the mighty Sharks.

Robbie Ross played a lot of footy for NSW and did a very good job. I can't recall what he was like for Melbourne. I was still very young but have watched Origins from that era 1,000s of times.

Peachey was unlucky not to play more games both through selection and through injury.

I swear there was a stage there Ross was getting picked over Lockyer for Australia. I may be wrong but I'm sure it was him.

Yeah, probably right. He was a good player and all, but he didn't have the flair of a Peachey or a Lockyer. I remember he was a bit of an auto pick for the rep selectors at one stage.

The Barrett of his day I guess. Not overly exciting but a solid selection that wont let you down catastrophically.

didnt say he didnt
But peachey was on fire at the time and deserved to be picked
My memory of it was he came in for Peachey when he was injured and got best of the series. From there he kept his spot in the next series.

If I remember that correctly I'd say it was pretty fair to keep him.

Just checked incorrect and correct.

Basher came in game two 2000 with the Peach out with an injury. Memory it was a fishing accident to do with his finger or something stupid. Basher got man of the match game two Peachey was available game three but Brasher got the nod.

2001 was when he was really ripped off IMO when we went with Mark Hughes.

Would chris anderson have been coach at the time? He did a lot of favours for his storm boys

Hughes had some good games also though.

Pretty much how I remember him in Origin good solid player who didn't do much wrong and did a few real good things.

Agreed again but I think he was the player the Peach most deserved to be there over.

Also he was playing centre at the time if I'm not mistaken and they went with him anyway.

I had seriously forgotten about that bloke. The name didn't even ring a bell. I had to google his name to see what he looked like!

Played more Origin than Peachey though...:bulgy-eyes:

That was a period of my life where I was watching very little football though.
