If Nathan Gardner is going to be tossed up as a our number 7, im gunna deliver a wooden spoon to the leagues club round 1. What a stupid idea.

yes you could probably get him in there during an injury crisis or whatever, but dead set he isnt going to be an andrew johns or even a jeff robson

Sorry , but I'm afraid you and Sharkboy just don't get it . No one is suggesting Gards to start as a half in first grade .FULLSTOP . But we have an overabundance of players that could play wing / fullback ahead of Gards .We however can't say the same for halfback .Gards isn't afraid to run to the line , is elusive and has played halves before . You just never know unless you give him a go in NSW Cup .A no brainer , seems both your arguments are highly illogical as you both assume the rest of us want him sent straight to first grade as the messiah . WRONG .

PS : Slide Rules response was clever and correct .

We have an over abundance of 1-5s. Thats 5 players, needing 5 replacements, other than flash every guy on this team has been injured. If holmes was our 1 and flash on wing if we have holmes injured id rather a fb come in to replace him rather than shuffle gordon to fit brown etc. our biggest issue was the teams being restructured every week.

He's now the third choice fullback and probably wouldn't be in line for a wing spot due to his size.

Apparently we've just resigned him or are in the process of doing so.

I don't see any harm in him multi-skilling and becoming of possible use to us. No player should be content with just sitting in NSW cup. He's very elusive and I've actually seen him put in some decent short kicks. He was a regular first grader before we started playing him injured every week. Id at least like to see him given a go there in NSW cup. It's not like we're spoiled for choice there anyway.

Good post . We can agree to disagree .But 3 things
1.If Gards was named at halfback 1st round NSW Cup we'd all be intrigued and hoped for the best .
2 . If he continually suceeded at that level you All would be pleasantly surprised and glad we took the punt .YES?
3 . That's where I'll leave this debate as it seems like some of you have magical crystal balls .

i dont doubt id be intrigued, but in terms of NSW cup quality half backs…….we've got one in firsts. Get him into NSW cup, and sign a first grader.

IF he succeeded as a NSW cup half back, then yes it would then be a discussion on firsts. But Michael Lichaa succeeded in reserves and 20s, Nu Brown, Chad Townsend etc etc doesnt pump em straight into first grade greatness either. If you are a good reseve grader, you need work to be a good first grader

I don't mind the way you're thinking, egg. Nothing wrong with thinking outside of the square.

I don't think it would work but we may as well experiment in the lower grades.

It would work better if we had a good dominating, directing and kicking half to accompany him, but if you've got someone you might as well try and find a use for them. He's really only worth holding on to if he provides some kind of utility value now.

Played well, doubled his try assist tally with 2 today, made 25 tackles all up, and took responsibility in having more possessions than Robbo and also as main general kicker the few times we managed to complete a set (He made 9 kicks for 270 odd metres, Robson made 5 for 140 metres). Don't think I remember him running the ball however, a five-eighth should be expected to do that.

If we don't get a proper first class quality halfback for next season, this guy would be more deserving for first crack ahead of grandpa Robson.

Holdsworth with carney all year and Nu for the remaining game would have seen us score a ****load of points compared to what we did score with Robson.

Holdsworth is just as good if not a better defender than robbo as well so you don't miss anything there.

Yep, in his 8 games he averaged 21 tackles and 2 misses, Robbo averaged 16 tackles for 2 misses. Considering the amount of one-on-one tackles Robbo makes, I'd say they are both pretty equally good in defense.

He has been better than Robson the past two games but Holdsworth had been pathetic earlier in the year, Robson as ordinary as he was played better than Holdsworth earlier in the year.

Holdsworth foes play better as well when he's the secondary organizer as well.

We still need a top 1/2 or 5/8 our kicking game is still very average we still lack speed and vision in a 1/2 and Flanno does not appear to be able to coach it
