So composed and always seemed to be where he should be or was needed. Wasn't a robot either - he found some plays that were working and went to them.
Solid kicking, defence and does it all with a slightly maniacal smile... Could even be a bit of pest in there I reckon. And the boys obviously love him.

Really like this kid.

He’s really come on well.

When everyone returns I reckon he can be a good 14 for us. Can cover backline spots and also a middle, bit like what Kurt Mann does at the Dogs.

Yeah he could be a good 14 but not sure we'll go that way, we have great cover with Sifa in the team.

Last night was how we need to play, straight up the guts with Blayke picking his moments.

I think we stick with 4 forwards.

Agree with both of you. We'll need both throughout a season and it's great to have really good options either way

Can Blayke bring that game consistently and in the finals though

This guy is our new Tracey. A real Competitor and can play a few different positions. I hope we hang onto him

This. Yes he has a bit of the a-hole about him & doesn’t take a back wards step - good to see the confidence from a spine player who has played circa 15 games!

He does have a joker like maniacal grin..

Unfortunately, like Tracey, I see Atkinson leaving soon (even as early as next year).

Atkinson is a good player, but he’s in that ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ seat at Cronulla. When everyone’s fit, I wouldn’t have Dan starting over Kennedy, Trindall, Hynes or Brailey.

The best we can offer him is a bench utility role, but with AFB coming next year it gets even harder to just to squeeze Dan on the bench. The more he puts in these solid performances at 5/8, the more likely he gets snapped up come next season.

Right now I doubt anyone would sign him to start (another year developing who knows) so it’d be a question of does he want to stay here as 3rd choice or go be 3rd choice somewhere else for maybe a tiny bit more money (doubt anyone would pay much).

Like you say though he’s already contracted next year, about 18 months younger than trindall. Maybe come end of this contract there is an opportunity to fight for a start somewhere.

Still think there could be a competition between him and Trindall to see who plays best with Nicho. This kid feels more like the more logical combo in the way we're playing... Which isn't an endorsement or criticism (quite yet), just what it looks like to me.

Atko's close to our starting 6... maybe should have invited Tricky out to celebrate after last night's game...

I think this is recency bias TBH.

The Hynes and Tricky combo worked great at the start of the year. Hynes and Atkinson started well but started to faulted a bit just before Nicho’s injury (however, I put this blame more on our forwards underperforming than I do Nicho and Dan).

When Trindall and Atkinson have partnered in the halves together, I think Tricky has out performed him each time. Dan’s two stand out performances are when he’s played the back seat to Cam and Brailey leading around the ruck.

It's a fair thing to hypothesise, but I still feel like the team plays their best footy consistently (like last night's style) with a steady hand next to Nicho. Tricky's got a lot of solid weapons in the arsenal, but is still a work in progress on the organiser front, imho. Atko has less dynamic play but I feel pretty confident in the whole team when he's taking charge.

The big difference is probably weighing up Tricky's individual value over Atko's value in contributing to the side. Last night was a great example of a no-fuss, extremely solid halves game that helped the side roll through the Titans. The team would have done just as well on the night with Tricky there, but he would have had a few personal highlights and we probably go around them a little more. That's why I still think there's a genuine question in the back of Fitz's mind. Though it's still Tricky's spot to lose.

In every game Atkinson has played with Hynes or Tricky he’s been very average

Could it be that he can't find his place on the field so to speak when more senior spine players are playing? Like taking the backseat and waiting for the ball to come his way? Being reactive more than proactive?

I'm not saying that's the case, just trying to offer a potential explanation.

Yeah I wouldn’t be suprised.

It’s why I hate Nichoball, it doesnt let much else have an input

This pretty much sums up my feelings. Atko more measured, plays straighter and is better at taking pressure off Hynes. Tricky the better player for individual moments.
