Sharks have been voted as the team most likely to win the wooden spoon, while Ricky has been voted as the WORST coach and coach under the most pressure.

(Blast!)> :sticky:

Also, how could Gal not be among the top contenders for toughest man in league? What disappointing results.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -

Daily Telegraph Fan Survey Extracts

Bring back the Bears, NRL fans demand
Nick Walshaw
The Daily Telegraph
March 03, 2010 12:00AM

DAVID Fairleigh already has his office. Has his stadium, peerless medical facilities and an NRL hit list headed by young Eels superstar Daniel Mortimer.

"Yeah, about the only thing I don't have right now is a team," Fairleigh grins. "But we know if we keep working hard, keep ticking off the boxes ... well, whenever expansion is mentioned we want people thinking the Central Coast Bears."

Consider the job done.

Because in the most overwhelming result of the The Daily Telegraph's 2010 fan survey, a staggering 78 per cent have demanded NRL boss David Gallop expand the competition to include a Bears team. Almost 8000 supporters cast their votes on the game's biggest issues, with the results including:

* KANGAROOS superstars Jarryd Hayne and Greg Inglis tied as the game's premier players;

* COWBOYS recruit Willie Mason named most over-rated; and

* PARRAMATTA workhorse Nathan Hindmarsh voted the game's toughest player.

But it's the Bears result that's sounding loudest in the corridors of NRL headquarters, with the survey result coming just four days after 18,000 fans converged on Central Coast Stadium for two trial matches.

"To have almost 80 per cent support among the game's fan base ... mate, awesome," Bears chief executive Greg Florimo said last night. "It's great validation for what we're doing. Another arrow in our quiver, if you like.

We're extremely happy with the way everything's coming along and we're certainly well ahead of where we planned to be this time 18 months ago."

While 2013 has been targeted by the Bears for entry into an expanded NRL, both Florimo and Bears coach Fairleigh are adamant they can be ready to go a season earlier if given a green light.

The Central Coast franchise has already secured major sponsors Mortgage House, Fone Zone and financial advisers Fortunity, and The Daily Telegraph understands another five corporations are involved in partnership negotiations.

"The two things we're really focused on right now is projecting a compelling case to the NRL and ensuring we're sustainable," Fairleigh said. "We're not going into this thing wishy-washy ... when it comes time to talk expansion we want to ensure it's the Bears."

The Central Coast bid team already has heavyweight supporters including St George Illawarra coach Wayne Bennett and league legends Andrew Johns, Wally Lewis, Peter Sterling and Wayne Pearce.
Manly can't shake Silvertail tag
Dean Ritchie
The Daily Telegraph
March 03, 2010 12:00AM

THEY were hated as the premiership's Silvertails through the 1970s and '80s, and it seems football fans' dislike for Manly has not waned.
In an online poll on this website, 20 per cent of league fans voted Manly the team they just love to hate.

The Sea Eagles pipped the Roosters (18 per cent), the Bulldogs (13 per cent) and Melbourne (11 per cent).

"That's a badge of honour - we'll wear it with distinction," senior Manly official Peter Peters said. "It means we're on the right track."
Manly fans have constantly claimed they actually enjoy being hated and jeered by rival clubs.

Meanwhile, more than 60 per cent of fans believe Newcastle will be the team from last year's finals who will miss this season's playoffs.

And Parramatta's Nathan Hindmarsh has been voted the game's toughest player.
Willie Mason is NRL's most overrated player
Dean Ritchie
The Daily Telegraph
March 03, 2010 12:00AM

HAVE North Queensland bought a lemon? The fans who voted in The Daily Telegraph online fan survey certainly believe so.

Nearly 20 per cent of fans voted the Cowboys' high-profile recruit Willie Mason as the NRL's most overrated player.

Former Roosters teammate Braith Anasta (12 per cent) ran second ahead of Manly co-captain Jamie Lyon (10 per cent).

Locked together in fourth place were Benji Marshall and Jamie Soward, on eight per cent.

"I have seen some pretty good players get that tag before," said Cowboys chief executive Peter Parr.

"I wonder if the people who voted for Willie have played 24 Tests for Australia.

"But it's no surprise in some way. Willie does polarise opinion and people have different perceptions of him.

"I know it will be water off a duck's back to Willie.

"I am sure Willie will bring us some firepower, good talk on the field and some enthusiasm. I find the question itself a little bit strange."

Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne and Melbourne's Greg Inglis were locked together as the NRL's best players.

The pair attracted 21 per cent of the vote ahead of Billy Slater (13 per cent), Johnathan Thurston (13 per cent) and Darren Lockyer (six per cent).

Thirty-two per cent of Hayne's vote came from fans under 18 years old.

St George Illawarra's Wayne Bennett was voted best coach ahead of Melbourne's Craig Bellamy and Wests Tigers' Tim Sheens, with Tony Archer named the NRL's best referee.

No AFL in this town, say NRL fans

Dean Ritchie
The Daily Telegraph
March 03, 2010 12:00AM

THE NRL's parochial fans have sent a direct edict to ambitious AFL boss Andrew Demetriou - we don't want your game in our town.

The majority of the almost 8000 respondents to The Daily Telegraph's Fans Survey don't think AFL's Team GWS is a threat to rugby league, don't follow an AFL side, won't watch an AFL match this season and wouldn't attend Australian rules matches even if tickets were cheap.

The overwhelming results left the NRL's powerbrokers obviously chuffed.

"I always thought the people of western Sydney were very smart," Eels CEO Paul Osborne said.

"I think we have a far superior product and the survey shows that."

Only 12 per cent of respondents said they would attend an AFL match this year, 85 per cent said they didn't attend an AFL game last season, 67 per cent don't support an AFL side, nearly 70 per cent denied the AFL's western Sydney push would threaten rugby league and 75 per cent said they still wouldn't attend an Australian rules match even if ticket prices were cheaper than NRL games.

NRL CEO David Gallop said: "We can't rest on our laurels but the survey demonstrates that rugby league can have confidence about how it is travelling in Sydney.

"When 75,000 turned out for the Bulldogs-Parramatta semi-final last year, we sent a message that our clubs are supported by generations of Sydneysiders who will hopefully turn out to watch their sides play in the early rounds."

But AFL NSW/ACT CEO Dale Holmes remained positive, saying: "They are great figures and to have a third of people across Sydney support an AFL team really reinforces the fantastic work the Sydney Swans have done over the past three decades to build a strong support base for the code."

Because real tough guys don't go whinging to the media and having a cry to their ranga journo mates every time they can not accept that they have done the wrong thing and been caught out.

The Sharks have their own members only forum (The Tank), as great as it would be to have him here, this is an open forum. I think we can all agree that the Sharks would benefit most if Q&A's were conducted there to attract more members and provide value to the current members.
