With the Roosters suggesting they want to offload him and with us likely to lose Maitua, should we have a go at signing him?

I know we have issues with our backs and number 9 but really we have some good yound players who are stepping up like Wright, Ferguson, Stapleton, Orcher, TC and Seu Seu so why not let Fitz finish his career with us giving us the best backrow in the comp, and more importantly getting a guy who could attract sponsors plus getting someone with a clean image. Also he would be here for 2 years max and then we use the money to get someone else anyway.

Any thoughts?

interesting suggestion - you have obviously thought about this with all goind points but i cant see Fitzy really providing us with much....i reckon we gotta give these young guys a go and see where they fall so to speak then recruit around them...for that to happen we need to give them time...i reckon we should put the wallet in the pocket and save our pennys for the off season...

Fitzgibbon would make an excellent buy for any club.
He is a true legend of the modern game.

yeh great bloke and is still traveling alright on the field. if we could get him then i don't see why not, he'd be good for the young boys coming through the ranks. as far as I'm concerned we don't really have a mentor type person in the forwards at the moment to guide our young team around. he has the former rooster connection with ricky as well.

Well as Rob has indicated, he's not on the market anyway.

Might be on the wrong side of his career but his image is outstanding and we're pretty light on in that department.

Haven't we learnt our lesson, signing has-beens at the end of their careers? Seriously, how many seasons is he good for? Keep blooding young talent!

Congrats on ya 1000 post :p

Couldn't agree more with what ya said, Corey Hughes ring a bell anyone!!!!

I wonder what more orcher has to do to get a go, I have seen only 3 games, but every time he is sniffing around the ruck, making breaks, scoring tries and we lack in all 3 areas, he must be feeling hard done by.

Damn, it is 1000 too! Wish I had of realised, I would have said something more profound! Oh, well I'll do it now...

Not really the same thing. Hughes was known to be an average player when he left the dogs and was a pretty stupid purchase at the time. Fitz is a different calibre of player who has played for both state and country in the last 12 months.

But mainly we would be brining him on for leadership, image, big-name signing for sponsors and of course because he has still got it. And a year or 2 is all we need from him.

In regard to Orcher: Ricky obviously has plans for him by playing him in NSW cup rather than Toyota Cup for the last few weeks and I'd say he'll give Stapleton 2 goes and send him back down and then Orcher is next. He has done that with Mannah, Wright and Ferguson already. He likes to give them a taste and then send them down with more confidence and experience. I'm sure Orcher is happy enough to bide his time.

Was nigel vagana the same?

Vagana wasn't at the backend of his career when he came to us, he just played like he'd retired.

He didn't get the quality ball he got at the Bulldogs though.

Vagana, Bott, Hughes, Maitua - never buy an old dog.
