Our kicking game was diabolical, even when we had the share of possession in the first 20 minutes.

At an absolute minimum he fixes that.
just having another kicking threat takes pressure of hynes and makes us better
Agreed

Just worries me it will achieve little if we then give away a penalty an extra 10m down the field and end up getting our line pounded anyway
We read an article the other day that said we are the worst at making meters and the warriors are the best and kick meters weren't going to be what fixed it.

But yes, multiple kicks we could have really used the extra meters

How good was that "long" kick Moyza attempted in the first half....went about 20 metres hahahahaha.
Moyza is there for a specific skillset and long kicks aint it.
He is very good attacking opposition line. I've tried backing in the rest of the team to lift their game to keep us in that area but they refuse to step up against opposition that push back.
Trindall offers more over the other 80m of field and our meterage & field position needs all the help it can get because it doesn't seem like anything else is being done to improve it

Well here’s where Fitz earns his money. First big test of his coaching career. At first glance it looks like he’s not cutting it. His players are letting him down. Not just Moylan, although I wish he would drop him, but Nicho is also down on form and the whole team seems to lack energy and gets the heebie jeebies against the top sides.

Now each of us has their own agendas. And it’s so easy for us to make our calls and air our opinions. But what’s going on at the coal face? Are there divisions? Is there player power going on? Are any of the front office big boys putting pressure on team selections? Are there boggling injuries that are preventing the players putting in their best performance?

For what it’s worth here is my opinion:

Tricky has to come in for Moylan
Wade cannot start in place of Tieg, so it must be Talakai.
McInnes to start 13, Dale comes back on the bench.
Tracey to centre to cover Talakai

So this is what I’d name against Manly:

Kennedy
Katoa
Tracey
Ramien (not opposed though with putting Ronnie here and bringing in Stonestreet)
Mulitalo
Hynes
Trindall
Rudolf
Brailey (sorry Snowy, who else goes there?)
BHU
Talakai
Nikora
McInnes

Finucane
Williams
Hazleton

Here is the problem 14 minutes in the first half.

Try 1: Nikora misses a tackle which causes Hynes has to cover up and tries to slow it down and he gives up a penalty. On fifth tackle, Kaufusi adjusts too late, which hold Brailey and Graham too close to the ruck. Warriors have a 5-on-4, execute well, and score.

Try 2: After 6 minutes of "set for set", Kaufusi gives up a soft 6-again for a flop on tackle 4. A few tackles later Graham jams in, Moylan follows and takes his man, but Talakai is a half a step behind and misses his guy.

Try 3: Shaun Johnson kicks a 40/20 down Mulitalo's side. McInnes and Hazelton both go low on Walker, and he gets a very quick play the ball. Graham makes a poor read, and then Moylan, Graham, and Williams all miss AFB.

Try 4: CNK stands in a tackle from McInnes and Hazelton. He gets a quick play the ball, Egan beats Nikora and Metcalf scores.

**

There were massive defensive issues across the board which put the team in this position. Maybe just have the Jets and Sharks swap jerseys next week.

Mate no one is denying there are defensive issues across the board, I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve here.

On 1 also worth noting Hynes held on because player was squirming off the mark to get a PTB without markers. Hynes obviously didn't think ref would send him back to mark and I agree he probably wouldn't have.

In general all the bold is why I want a team wide / system improvement more than I am worried about it being Trindall or Moylan. Doesn't mean I wouldn't also be happy with Trindall, but there is a lot to fix

Trindall should've been in the 7 after magic round and at the latest after the storm flogging. Hynes and Moylan combo has run its course after last two seasons, it doesnt work and its not the right balance. If you had brought trindall in middle of the season and trialled him at 7 and hynes at 6 against weaker teams along with having the byes to train more in those roles, might have better results if it worked for us come back end of the season. If Fitz was too nice or worried about the changes and didnt want to drop moylan out of the 17, he couldve put him at utility on the bench as cover to play it safe and dropped Wade to 18th man. If it didnt work, then we look for other options than just Moylan or Trindall, either take chances with Atkinson and Dykes training in the off season or go to the market for a genuine 7. Hynes is a 5-8, they are wasting him in the 7 putting too much on his shoulders. He's trying his best with the big role they've given him and its too much pressure. He should be playing more like a munster or lockyer at 6.

This wont fix all our problems but it is one of them that needs to be fixed. The current halves combo wont take us all the way, accept it and move on with other options

It’s pretty simple in my opinion.

The bottom teams know how to beat us but don’t have the personnel to do it.

The top teams do.
Totally agree. Tigers nearly had us. Titans, Knights and Sea Eagles play with more intensity to us. We are going to struggle to win more than 1-2 games thos year.

The whole Fitz renowned defensive coach thing prob had a bit to do with those Roosters players being both of high quality AND being scared shitless of the actual head coach in Trent Robinson.

I know Roosters are having one of their bad years but Robinson is not a coach afraid to move players around positional, drop players and/or move them on. The players would be aware of that. Robinson values success and his job more than his players feelings.

Fitz is now a head coach, he doesn't have that higher up coach to defer to or springboard off, he is now the main man. As the manager he doesn't get to focus on defense either or this or that he has to have the right people around him as he has enough on his plate to manage and coordinate.

Squad / player / team lists + coaching staff are his responsibility and on that front he looks to be dropping the ball.

I don't think I have watched more than a handful or his pre or post game press things, bloke gives nothing away and lacks some passion / energy.
Different story with Robbo, Sticky, Bellamy ect. they are much more salty and up front haha. They bleed for success.

I wonder if any pressure can or will start to be applied from the higher ups at our club on Fitz, surely they relise we can't stay on the current course and it's bad for business.

Ofcourse Fitz may have sold them a 5 year plan kinda vision but surely it doesn't take 5 years to sort out an edge, shuffle some players and make some more tackles.

At this point i havent lost faith in Fitzy, but right now he needs to make some hard calls and hurt some precious feelings. If he cant do that he will never be a success. Moylan for 1, while I admire he has clearly been more focused on his job the last 2 seasons given so many seasons of poor fitness, its now a case of too little too late. He isnt prepared to be a speed bump, he only wants to be a turnstile. Needs to body up, even if it means being trampled, it slows it down for the others to clean up. Maloney used to do it perfectly

Is there a single issue that Moylan fixes better than Trindall ?

And don’t mention attack because our attack against top teams is woeful and Tricky has shown how crafty he is

buzz actually talking some sense, must have been sober when he wrote this
Yes, more of this please.

Had enough of people rating this team and it’s coach

As fans with a roster like ours there is no reason as to why we almost look disabled against good teams
