Everyone was blowing up about Fitzy after the Storm game for not making these changes straight up. I would say it was a case of he put them on notice after that game….they all played ok for a few weeks then stunk it up last weekend which was their last straw. So while he didnt take immediate action after that flogging, i would say he had laid out some challenges to those players which they have now failed, so theyre cut.

I think Ronnie is probably on notice too, hes been non existant the last fortnight, i think Fitz held off on a 4th big change to the team for the sake of not just chopping up the team everywhere

What about the Dolphins game before that? Changes should have been made after Melbourne.

Hynes has said he wants to be 7 because thats what Fitz and the club planned and sold him, so he's going to back the clubs plan. It is what the team needed at the time, letting SJ and Chad go, Trindall still a rookie starting out, leaving Moylan left in the halves. The numbers and positions do matter in the traditional sense or roles. They've made him into a hybrid 6 and 7 and its not working because the halves are not balanced. Choose a "traditional" role/position for him and stick to it. If its 7, it will be better for him and the team to focus more on game management and have Moylan more involved as a 6.

Yes he played 7 in reserves, so what, he played 6 and 1 also. Going off his last role where he was starring and excelling as a roaming fullback, his next best position in the halves was as a running 5-8, he was practically a second 5-8 at the back for storm.

Sorting out the halves is still an issue that needs to be fixed as well as other things

If Trindall holds onto his place in the team it could be the way things naturally progress

I think this is what’s going to happen and next year Hynes will naturally end up being 6 Tricky 7

I haven’t seen anything since then to contradict what he said in that article

Not any comments since then
Not his play style ever
Nothing

Everything including himself says he likes to be a 6, if since that article he said he likes to kick and play on the ball then we have a problem

But If the only time he’s said he wants to be a halfback and play on the ball is when he first started then I would take that as I’ve realised I’m not so good at that and now I realised I prefer running and taking my chances
You could be right. He could also have just been saying the right things to hopefully get the origin jersey.

I would think if he saw himself as a 6 now, the coach wouldn't have put Tricky there this week.

Nah

I think because Moylan cannot play 7 at all Hynes has always had the 7

Now that tricky is up we will naturally see it change over - Tricky has always been a 7 so I don’t know how he will go at 6 for now tbh aslong as his usual role doesn’t change too much we should be sweet

Happy with these changes, let’s hope they perform
Hopefully Fitz has told him he gets a minimum 4 games to cement his position, or something like that, so he can relax, have his head set, and not try to win his place with a 12/10 game.

Is 7 truly not Nicho's natural game or is that a judgement based on people's impression of what a 7 should look like?

He's gunna wanna touch the ball as much as he can anyway, I don't think the shirt number will matter*
Him and Moylan treat it more as a halves partnership rather than very distinct roles, no reason he and Trindall can't do the same - I'm sure a 6 is allowed within the rules to point, shout, and get in position to kick. As long as they are on same page two people can contribute to organising a team. Maybe Nicho would play better if he didn't worry about that but I don't think it is in his natural game to not try and be the man.

*if it doesn't matter why not put him in 6? well because it doesn't matter to his game and he is the marquee player who wants to wear 7
Based on my impression of what a team needs in a dominant half, traditionally being the 7. Numbers don't really matter.

I've always said he could get there, but I haven't seen as an innate talent the ability to steer the team, organise the attack or take over when we're in trouble. If anything, those things seem to default to Moylan, especially when the **** hits the fan. Nicho has a lot of touches but he's certainly not directing all of the play.
