If it helps I agree with the principle of what you are saying.

If Broncs are keen to spend something like 1.1/1.2 million on Reynolds and he wants us to match there is a pretty fair argument for saying no way.

Instead of spending 800k on him and 400k on 5/8 (if that is what we wanted to spend on SJ) we could definitely look at something like three of the guys from the bottom half of my list in rumour mill earlier, spending up around 800k. Then hoping competition between them, Tracey, Metcalf and Rivett forced two worthwhile players to the top of the pile and have another 400k or so to spend on props to make sure these guys have a forward pack they can play behind.
Another one not on my list is Broncos Tyson Gamble. If Reynolds went there he may be an option to bring here cheap. Him + Tracey certainly wouldn't leave you wishing for effort or passion (which makes them good players to have the other guys trying to outtrain/outplay).

Now that would really be a BIG gamble. He's just played his fifth game in about four years. He went well. so I'm waiting to see if it was just a flash in the pan/

Clune cracked the NRL at 24/25
Fogarty got his second chance at 26/27
Tracey is 25 this year

O'Sullivan is not established yet and he is 23 later this year, Hutchison is 26, Lachlan Lewis probably started too early and is 25 later this year, Taylor was probably in NRL too early he's 26 and only recently getting a handle on things.

More players are not Sam Walker than are Sam Walker.

At 22 this year there is a good chance Trindall makes a strong NRL half... in two or three more years.

I don't know particularly much about Tyson Gamble but being 24/25 with a handful of NRL games under his belt already isn't super concerning if we are looking at budget friendly options anyway.
From his wiki because I decided to have a look after I threw his name around despite also admitting I didn't know much... (referring to round 8) Commentator Billy Slater said, "He's the one organising play, he's the one talking and pointing. He is getting to the points and getting these plays on. He was outstanding in this game, he just gave so much structure and gave Milford that freedom."
Kind of thing we will be looking for if we don't get Reynolds.

If you believe Riccio sounds like plans to make Tracey a centre.

Any Luke Lewis clones we can get to defend inside him? Would feel a bit better then. He will get a lot of traffic down his lane.

3 years is massive for Tracey - who would have thought he would land a contract like that at the start of the season

i'm really happy for him

but bench utility is the only spot I really see for him long term unless he can seriously step up his defense in the centres and maybe add a bit of bulk

quality depth regardless - very handy player to have around

His passing is the most worrying thing about him, if you could teach him how to finish off a try he could be a good winger.

He reminds me a bit of John Morris actually, the perfect 14, can slot in almost anywhere in the backline and not be out of place. probably could play hooker in a pinch too

Bomber was the opposite. Hooker who could play anywhere in a pinch.

Gamble is similar to Fogerty. Not a star by any means, but a class above in Cup. If he is surrounded by good players he can do a job. Good goalkicker and can notch a fg too.

The two players actually had very similar experiences, separated by a couple of years.

2017 Fogerty goes to Parra. Doesn't get an opportunity so comes back to Q Cup before June 30 and takes his Q Cup team from being bottom dwellers to nearly making the finals. Dominates the comp in 2018 and 2019. Gets himself an NRL deal.
2019 Gamble, after spending 18 months at the Wests Tigers doesn't get much opportunity, so comes back to Q Cup before June 30 and takes his Q Cup team from being bottom dwellers to actually making the finals. Stand out player in the comp over a 6-8 week period. Gets himself an NRL deal.

Cody Walker was different. Talent was there but his head wasn't in the game.

Good answer Burg

If we were to sign him (not that there is any talk about that anywhere) I look forward to hanging every single loss entirely on him and giving him zero credit when we win
