A man has been sentenced to at least 14 months jail for making threats to the former boss of the Cronulla Sharks rugby league club.
Clint Leigh Elford, 28, pleaded guilty on February 18 after being charged with sending a document threatening grievous bodily harm.
The charge was laid by police in early July 2009 after warders at Goulburn jail, where Elford was on remand, found a letter addressed to a man with links to the Rebels bikie gang.
The letter, discovered on July 1, 2009, allegedly solicited the bashing of former Sharks boss Tony Zappia.
The letter included Mr Zappia's home address and Elford's desire for him to be "taught a lesson".
At the time Elford - a dedicated Sharks fan - was on remand, charged with obtaining $525,000 through false health insurance claims.
Police allege Elford's fraud offences included falsifying documents from health professionals and using them to substantiate the insurance claim.
It is understood he made charitable donations and gave $30,000 to the Sharks club after talks with Mr Zappia, who has since quit the club.
At Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Geraldine Beattie sentenced Elford to 20 months prison for the threatening document.
The sentence includes a non-parole period of 14 months and with time already served Elford will be eligible for release on parole on August 15, 2010.
His fraud matters are due for mention at Sydney's Downing Centre District Court on June 9 and are expected to reach sentencing when Goulburn District Court next sits in August.
