Its just been announced over here that Channel 9 has signed a deal to take up to 70 Super league games and 9 Challenge Cup games to be shown Live over there and also they have agreed to show the highlights at a more reasonable hour for you as well :) so looks as though you will be able to see the "Mighty" Crusaders a couple of times next season ....which looks like the "World" famous Nash super league reports will not be required anymore :( (a good thing i hear you cry) :)
Just thought id tell you that bit of info being as its the off season (apart from world cup ) and i cant report on stunning England performances now can i :)

This is a great thing, well, at least it would be if CH9 had their sh!t together with their current rugby league rights. Their broadcast of the NRL and especially the RLWC is terrible. No offense to the English Super League, but if CH9 can make an NRL game come across as slow, boring and drawn out there is no hope for an entertaining broadcast of an ESL match.

Lets get the Australian brand out to Australians in a professional and positive way, in areas outside the traditional heartlands of NSW and Queensland. Once CH9 can do that, then have a crack at bringing the English brand to us.

Seems that thanks to CH9 ability to f-ck up a broadcast, the world famous Nash Super League updates will still be required.

I personally do enjoy the ESL. Instead of comparing it to the NRL, I appreciate it for what it is. It is rugby league, but a total different brand. The fundamentals that go along way to winning an NRL match won't necessarily win an ESL match, and vice versa.

Hey Nash sorry wasn't having a go at you, just snits me that ch9 does its best to screw the game as it is without adding ESL to the mix.

I really don't understand why they would show ESL games or does this mean they will move another game from FTA and put on a ESL game?

I am confused why they would purchase rights to something they wont show?

Anyone got any ideas?

Unless they have purchased the rights so PayTV cant show it or to sell it to them?

Bennett, who will not relocate his family from Brisbane during his three-year tenure, was due to move into a flat just above rowdy Cronulla bar Northies. ...

<EDITED>

Nine keep faith

England's poor form during the Rugby League World Cup has brought the quality of the Super League into question, but it hasn't stopped cash-strapped Channel Nine from snapping up the broadcast rights to show it and the Challenge Cup over the next three years. Under the deal, 70 Super League games will be shown live and on delay, and the tip is it will be on the new high-definition channel. "Embracing the English Super League competition is a natural extension of our commitment," Nine boss David Gyngell said. "Not only will our audience see more high-quality rugby league, but, with many former NRL stars now playing in the UK, we'll be watching a lot of very familiar players."

Well I understand why they have taken on the ESL now Nashy after a bit more digging with the extra FTA (Free to Air) channels coming on line next year they are looking for sports content for those channels this makes me and should make most others very happy even the AFL etc.

From what I understand it will allow them to have live/replays of games on the second channels whilst still showing the normal mainstream content on the first this should leave us with choice allow them more advertising space and it looks also to be the end of Foxtel/Austar unless they do something about the crap they are selling and pricing structure.

In this case I will probably find an ESL team to barrack for from my armchair as well :D.

IPTV is also looking good for the future as well and will become a big player in keeping the channels honest long term.

The only problem is that stupid 5y contract the NRL is under but that will change well lets hope.
