Kid wasn’t ready. Looked great until everyone else got up to speed but isn’t a first grader right now.

Couple extra kilos and another NRL preseason he’ll be sweet for next year.

Could have used a break but Graham keeps getting hurt which made it difficult.

Yep, 1st season fatigue. Same has happened to Uele IMO. Big step up into the gruel of a 1st grade season.

Not to many 1st year players across any code can get to the end of their 1st season without taking a few backward steps deep into their rookie year. The young guys body must feel like it’s gone 12 rounds with mike Tyson unloading body shots on him. I’m excited to see him with another full pre season in him. Happy to give the guy a rest or try reduce his minutes and manage him till end of the year. Easier said than done with our injury list at the moment.

That’s a great explanation for why he is playing poorly now. What have you got to explain the garbage he’s been putting out since round 4?

He was playing out of his skin rounds 1-3. Complete liability since.

Williams too
All still have good moments but showing fatigue signs.
BHU been around NRL teams the longest and has probably shown the least drop off so far

What's your explanation? He obviously has the capability because it has been demonstrated.

For one people have realised his tackling can be a touch suspect and for two he hasn’t developed his game past run one line really well.

Last game was about the first time he’s ever ended up running a different line and ended up getting a (forward pass) try assist from it. Chopping and changing of half/FB won’t have helped to add more variance into the backline plays over the season.

Additionally I think Johnson hits him on that line too often, should go out the back more as Nikora’s line is being easily read and shut down when you hit it 50%+ of the time

Agreed. He’s demonstrated that he’s supremely capable of missing regulation tackles and bad reads inside his own 20. Those things are not my cup of tea but I guess you’re in to that.

Needs another year.

I hope your not saying what I think your saying......as shark fans we have over rated someone too much too early... I can’t recall us ever doing that before.

If Bryce Cartwright can improve from the point the media were actively laughing at his defence week after week there is hope for Nikora

Where did I say that he doesn't need another year? My post was about 1st year fatigue. But a player of his age has the opportunity to improve in all facets of their game after making debut.

How is he supposed to react to top grade and improve to that level until he's played top grade?

First year fatigue is a real thing. 100%

It doesn’t start in round 4.

Nikora isn’t good enough, was never good enough, but looked good early when everyone else was warming up. It’s not first year fatigue. It’s a player who isn’t ready.

We'll see how things unfold.

Maybe he should buy you a chamomile tea sometime.

Maybe correct .
Who are our regular right side defenders ?
Been a crapfest of movement.
Hard to get combinations and continuity.
NZ selectors obviously saw something to pick him at an early age ?
Maybe , cut him some slack .
Our problems have been our front row forwards being STUPID

As long as it does the trick.

Nikora defending like an NRLer would do the trick.

I don’t dislike him as a player. I just think he was rushed for non-football reasons (Johnson, contract) and would have been better off playing longer for the Jets.

Agree, Egg. At the beginning I liked the mixing and fine tuning on the team, but at the year goes on we’re no closer to even knowing what that team is, let alone getting them on the field at the same time.
