It's crazy how much time and space he is afforded to run off the inside pass and he can start tap dancing around but perhaps this is just a result of working a good play after the setup

It's like having another Ramien

But give Nikora more support runners please, he obviously isn't always going to find the way to the tryline on his own/himself

Stupid rule. They are already disadvantaged because they play less games (whilst suspended)

It should only matter if suspended due to bringing the game into disrepute

I would add I agree with it if it's something quite bad.
Obviously a big suspension makes it hard for them anyway but I think if someone racks up a decent amount of weeks through something especially bad or just repeated minor (but suspension worthy) things fair enough to make them ineligible.

Game has tightened rules and suspensions a lot since the eligibility criteria was created. A lot more is a high tackle, hip drops and crushers etc exist.
When it was made a rule you would have had to near murder a bloke to get suspended.

In the modern, considering how easy it is to get suspended, you probably have a point

Isn't it an award for best and fairest? Can't be fairest if you have been suspended

What if you got suspended one week but someone else gave away far far more penalties... maybe throw a few fines in there. Are they more fair than someone who did one marginally worse thing?

Is a tackle slipping up a touch on a falling player 'unfair' or just an accident.

Further to that you can get Dally M votes in the game you commit the discretion that makes you ineligible.

The Dally M Medal is awarded each year (annually) to the player voted for as the 'Player of the year' over the National Rugby League (NRL) regular season.
....
Additionally, a player will lose three votes for each week of suspension that he incurs during the season.
No mention of fairest (via wikipedia)

This team of the year stuff apparently does include the top 3 polling Dally M players and those who poll the highest in each position but the rest is made up from 'other' votes at 'regular intervals' made about who is the best in a position.
So it is kind of a bit weird how other people get included into and shouldn't discount Nikora if that is correct.

You get suspended for accidental head contacts these days.

Suspensions were reserved for the worst of the worst back when the rules were created.

Example of the NAS tackle - that wasn't even a penalty 5 years ago (let alone 40 years ago). Now he's getting 4 weeks.

It was a highlight reel pride of the game shot!

4 weeks is harsh for it, I assume it got blown out by his record. I haven't actually seen the charge just the proposed outcome.

It was grade 3, so you would imagine prob 2- 3 weeks starting point

Okay, Grade 3 Careless High Tackle...

OFFENCEGRADE1ST OFFENCE
(Early plea in brackets)
2ND OFFENCE
(Early plea in brackets)
3RD OFFENCE
(Early plea in brackets)
High Tackle - Careless1$1500 ($1000)$2500 ($1800)2 matches ($3000)
22 matches (1)3 matches (2)4 matches (3)
33 matches (2)4 matches (3)5 matches (4)

So with 3+ priors anything but grade 1 was a suspension. With no priors it's a 2 match.
It was very pretty forceful and direct with only mitigating factors really being he already had teammates in the tackle so grade 2/3 is probably fair.

I did think they'd call it grade 1 though.
