Brett Kimmorley had an unhappy start to the 2002 season, due to Cronulla's failure to adapt to the Chris Anderson 'flat attack' and the pressure that followed him replacing crowd favourite, Preston Campbell.
But in June he helped lead the club out of a 7-game losing streak, producing two great performances as the Sharks beat St George 34-13 in Round 13 and Canberra 36-26 in Round 14. It was the start of a record-equalling 11 game winning streak that lasted until the final round.
