I think this might have been his most consistent season in terms of giving us strong carries. And is starting to give us some leadership too. Defense has also improved quite alot over previous seasons IMO.

It's a big out IMO and will see us down on firepower in the middle. Hunt will now have to work harder to make up for it and it brings a finals rookie in JC onto the bench.

BHU is a good player for us, I'm always a bit surprised some fans are a bit sour on him

And most consistent in injuries

BHU - 2023
Not very impressive metrics for BHU.

Looks great up to 26 minutes of ball in play (exactly half a game) but any time he plays more than that, his involvement drops 20-40%, he misses more tackles, and inside his own half he turns into Kaufusi.

BUT...

All of his best games in both attack and defence were prior to round 9.

Sharks missed him big time when he was gone, and he wasn't the same player when he came back after that. Less runs, less tackles, more missed tackles. Thanks Jeremiah Nanai.

Not a great year on paper, but based on this I'm sticking with my assessment that the inability to get a healthy Finucane, BHU and Rudolf into the 17 at the same time was a huge factor in the team's overall performance.

There was only one game all year where Nicho’s played and BHU. Rudolf, McInnes, Finucane and Williams all played... and in that game both Kaufusi and Nikora got HIA'd so it messed up Williams' minutes. There were zero games with Nicho where Fitz had all five of those players to use in his preferred rotation.

Time for this guy to step up, 98 games in 7 years. 28 years old. If he doesn’t kill it this year then I think it’s time we let him sign elsewhere.

Up 35% on average last year, can’t complain about that

Have been saying quite a while that his biggest issue will be staying healthy.
I expect you are alluding to this, but it's not even games missed which is a dire issue. It's the lasting impact (and/or refinding form) after injuries which has left an impression.

Last 3 seasons he's played
19/24 79%
17/26 65%
19/25 76%

I'd only really say one of them, less than 2/3 of games, is notably bad. The others are okay.

Doesn't help us in last two seasons Dale has actually played 6 games less than Braden (8 less over past 3 seasons, 14 less over past 4 seasons).
And while Toby was stayed on the field a lot in 21 and 22 he only played 15/25 this season - doesn't help our middle either.

Like Burgess refers to - in 2023 our starting 3 middles played 47 of a possible 75 games, just 62% (and worse than BHU's worst personal total in past 3 years). BHU actually pulls that number up but if you had a record of games negatively impact by injuries carried in I think he'd a stand out in that metric - regularly seems to take a while to find his barnstorming form again

Yep, he seems to be either out or at less than 100%. Then when he pushes to 100% he gets injured. I don't know where that leaves him (or us) as a starting prop.

You couldn't really attribute him playing good form to injury though (very directly). Nanai hip drop was his previous injury - 4 weeks Nanai out, BHU not same rest of the season.

Obviously when in good form he is more chance to play longer or take bigger defence efforts so there is some correlation still.

We have guys who can cover short to mid length outs pretty well but him coming back and not being at same level is a headache

Hopefully it's just the end of it because when he is in top form he is a weapon.

I think if you looked at games he started and played more than ~30 minutes that would give you a pretty good measure. Five of his games year he was on the bench and/or played less.

2022 was similar. Injured in round 6. Returned round 17 but went 4 weeks before starting again or playing more than 30 minutes.
