This is an old RLW article from August 26th 1978

Ha ha that artice is a classic... Wests didnt want to site Kneen because they "didnt want to make it any easier for Manly" and Cronulla had said that they had video evidence which would lead to one of Wests players also being suspended. Priceless.

Go back to that system I say.:cheers

But in the end it opened the door for Manly led by the biggest cheat to ever be involved in rugby league (Greg Hartley) to win the grand final. It was late in the game when Manly fed a scrum into the second row and it should of been a penalty to the Sharks, Hartley said play on no penalty (he later said you don't want to win a grand final on a scrum penalty) it was within easy kicking distance of Steve Rogersand would of put us in front 13 - 11. funny that it was a scrum penalty earlier that gave Manly the lead at 11 - 9. Hartley the little cheating ********* cost us what would of been our first premiership.

yes, that man was scum. i've seen worse refs but he was without a doubt the lowest of all. kneen, however, was one of the hardest blokes i've seen in a sharks jumper.
