This is the first time I've seen the under 20s - must say I'm disapointed but I hear there are a few players out Stapo included.

I liked the look of Leha too along with the fullback Hume and also the replacement winger Blake Ferguson made some good runs and busted tackles.

Young Guns re-signed

Ben Orcher, Nathan Stapleton, Stewart Mills, Blake Ferguson & Jake Denford have re-signed with our club. We have also signed a young promising Queensland junior John Manor. This is apparently according to 'The Leader' today.

I think our top prospects in NYC are Bosden, Filiga, Bukuya, Stapleton, Grubb, Ferguson and Orcher. Also like the look of young Blake Williamson.

Orcher will be the best outta that bunch IMO...

From what I have been told from basically the horses mouth.

Fergusson, still an SG ball player this year, has the benefit of youth, showing promise.

CRONULLA Sharks schoolboys Blake Ferguson and Jacob Denford are representing NSW Combined High School (CHS) at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League tournament which began in Darwin on Sunday.

The generation-next stars played for Cronulla in the SG Ball Cup competition this year before progressing to the under-20s Toyota Cup squad.

Denford, from Engadine High, will captain the side from the second-row while Endeavour Sports High student Ferguson, a fullback, will get his first taste of representative rugby league.

``It'll be a bit hotter ... we'll have to keep our water bottle with us and keep hydrated,'' said the Engadine Dragons junior, who hopes to progress through the junior development system and eventually play NRL with the Sharks.

Ferguson, a former Earlwood Saints junior, is in his first year as a Sharks player.

``In the under-20s the wrestle is a lot harder and they are physically stronger,'' Ferguson said.

The tournament will be held from July 13-18.

CRONULLA Sharks junior and Engadine High School student Jacob Denford captained NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) to victory over NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) in the final of the Australian Secondary Schools under-18 national championships in Darwin.

Denford played with the Sharks SG Ball side in 2008, earning junior representative player of the year honours before moving up to the under-20 Toyota Cup side.

He played lock for NSW CHS, scoring a try in their 18-12 victory in the championship final. He was judged most valuable player for his team.

CHS won their opening game against Queensland 32-10 before a tight two-point loss to CCC in their second match. In the semi-final, the side faced Queensland, again defeating the team 26-12.

Another member of the successful NSW CHS team was fellow Sharks SG Ball and Toyota Cup player, Blake Ferguson, while Kyle O'Donnell played for NSW CCC.

After the carnival, an Australian Schoolboys side was selected, with Matthew Wright, a talented outside back from Patrician Brothers Blacktown, chosen in the team. He will join the Sharks next year.

I am sure Luke Bailey and Jason Ryles also did the same injuries, I honestly don't think Ryles was the same since that actually.

I have been told otherwise about Karlos, he is behind a few other younger kids, in getting a start. I have heard Orcher, Ferguson and others are before him.

Though Orcher is a fullback and Ferguson a winger. So positionally he can't be behind them, which imo won't hurt his chances getting a call up in the centres. Just thinking aloud the only other younger centres that Karl may compete with are Stapleton (rate Karl higher atm), Phil Latu (read he is a wrecking ball, though could be different against decent competion) and I can't honestly think of any others atm.

My opinion is Ferguson is still a year away and he and Orcher need to do some more work on their physiques. Though depending on their pre and off season training it may be a different story now. GW have they put some muscle mass on? If so significant enough for the step up to the NRL from Toyota Cup?

Just back onto Karl, GW is he expected to get a good run with the FG squad in the trials, and if so at centre, in the backrow or even both? And if he performs does he actually have to shot to make the top 17 for round 1? Just because the impression Im getting is he is on the outer and Stick has basically lost faith or patience for him.

Ferguson has played his junior reps in the centres, but I know Brown and Anderson also have first dibs on trialling there, and both would be preferred option to Filiga, at this stage.

Mate his only 2 options for Filiga is back row and centre, given that now our backrow is easily the best in the comp, I doubt that is a real option for him, centres, as above, I think you will find Fraser and Mitch are before him.

Orcher has put one some size, but Ferguson has minimally, BUT from what I am told about the weekend just played, both need some defensive work, especially Ferguson.

I know they are pushing REALLY hard to get Orcher there, because they know they need some speed on the wings.

Karl I think Sticky realised last year, he has made a big mistake, I am not sure he will be back from injury in time for trials or round 1, I am not sure, but I do know in my info given, his name has not even got a mention in getting a start.

I like him. He's a tall lanky kid. Stands maybe roughly 6'3-6'4. I thought he played well in NYC last season. If he keeps improving and fills out that frame of his he could become a good first grader. Also in the games I saw of him I thought he was good under the high ball in attack. IMO I don't think he is ready yet for FG.

Also regarding Fergo Im assuming playing Matts and Ball in the centres, fair enough, though IMO he won't be selected ahead of Karl to play in the centres for FG this season.

Funny enough about Mitch Brown to get a run in the centres, I threw that idea up last season for him to get a run there. Maybe Stick has been searching these very forums. ;)

Sorry to say this and especially to Peach but the centre pairing for the first round will be Pomeroy/Simmons. If Ricky was happy to keep Simmo there last year, he'll start him there again I reckon. I don't see Maitua as an option in the centres so I think we need to look at Matt Wright or Karlos Filiga if Simmons doesn't measure up. Even though they've played a bit of under 20s footy Stapleton and Ferguson don't impress me. Orcher's the guy I want to see in the top grade.

Yeah he played centre in the trial and by all accounts went well, I guess it's up to mitch, Nathan Stapleton, Matt Wright and Ben Orcher and Blake Ferguson as to who steps up and takes their chance with fraz gone.

Guessing thats the starting side we will see round 1

Should be interesting to see peaches reaction to Simmo in centre.

actually as far as im aware misi is facing a one game suspension so expect brown, or if hes really lucky, ferguson, to start on the wing in round 1
