Official Ben Lysaght

Was going through a few photos at my mums this arvo when I found a pic from about 1993/94 of a few of my mates and I following my uncles horse at Kembla Grange. Standing in the pic is one of the nicest blokes with a huge footballing ability who's life was cut short by a freak accident. His name... Ben Lysaght. The impact that his death had on this club in 1994 could be heard in Alan Wilsons voice after winning the 2nds GF. Great bloke, even greater loss.

Excuse spelling and dates etc if wrong as I have an "Extra Dry" brain at moment.

I remember when he died how big an effect it had, but I never knew him or saw him play. I believe he was the U23s fullback, and the accident happened a few days before the grand final, is that right Tony?

How did he pass away if you don't mind me asking.

I do remember Ben. I think he died in a car crash, not 100% sure. Big loss to the club.

He was with Matt Rogers the night he died. Freakish car accident in driveway if my memory serves me correct.

I thought it was on a street at Cronulla somewhere

Sad way for a great bloke to go. I remember talking to his mum and told her that those who came across him will remember him for his fun loving personality, his love of life and him as a truly genuine person. There aren’t too many blokes that I’d classify as "beautiful" (because I’m too much of a bloke lol) but he was beautiful individual.
