...I'd suggest we need at least a week of notification before we could have a successful Fire Up event (N.B. I'm thinking along the lines of 20-30 people again, not a massive party). If we did go ahead, we'd have to make sure to spread the load around more in organising it this time.

...Thoughts?

I'm sorry I'm not in a position to help here, but it is obvious that fitz is swamped with work atm. Someone needs to step up and take charge... Im sure fitz would be able to find the time and be happy to consult.

...With Fitz's idea of the big centre piece, what are your thoughts on seeing if a sponsor
(Hisense), put there logo on the white part of the centre piece to help cover the cost for material.

Not bad advertisement.

Just an Idea.

I like the idea mate... I have an idea for next season that could hopefully be entirely covered cost wise by some sponsors... I'll post more later, but it basically surrounds using double sided display cards rather than a tifo... Just like the old footy cards with the Grand Final Pic on the back.

:cheers

Yes well I have to admit it'd be a bit scary without you organising the whole thing fitz! I did do the sums on the fabric, and it is also a little scary. For argument's sake, say we did the massive flag for the Mermaids. Say it was 25m x 10m (not exactly massive). Even if we got it at $2 a metre (not simple) for 1m width, it would still be something like $500. So I can see we can't do that lightly. To put the size in perspective, the TIFOs are each around 8m by 6.5m. Sewing it all together would also be a big ask.

I have 2 natural reactions - one to say too hard! The other to say what the hell, let's set a date for a banner-making workshop - Sunday afternoon, August 8, the day after the Warriors game - and make things happen like we did last time. Spend the next week brainstorming the centrepiece, looking at fabric options, coming up with poster ideas, and recruiting people to come along to both the banner day and the game.

But... I obviously don't want to trash the Believe campaign by doing something half-arsed, so we would need to know quickly who here would be in for that date. Also if anyone wants to "veto" the idea, that is totally understandable too, and I'm not going to be offended.

Sunday afternoon, August 8, the day after the Warriors game - and make things happen like we did last time.

I suggest that you use the Warriors game to your advantage and drum up some support for the following day. Look at it this way.

A4 photocopies cost $0.06. Draw up an A4 flyer that can be cut up in to A6. Photo copy it 1000 times and cut them up... Officeworks might be able to cut them for you for a nominal charge. You're looking at $70 for 4000 flyers. Organize some kids to hand them out around the ground. Give them some ice cream and hot chip incentives and you are looking at a total cost of $100-120.

If you get a 2% response, you are looking at 80 people + those who came to the last work bee, and those that can be drummed up from this forum and Facebook. You're looking at about 100 people. From those 100 people you can get all the labour and all the funds required for the project.

Book the room first... Do what you can to get a player or two to show up on the day, and hopefully you can use their name/s on the flyer.

Materials will obviously have to be paid for before hand.

Strong leadership will need to be shown on the day. If you are not confident, get someone you know who is a strong public speaker to be your front person - You tell the speaker what is needed, and the speaker gets the troops in to action.

I know I make it sound simple... But whenever I've organized events in the past, I have always started at the goal, and worked my way backwards. The fun is all the time in between!

Self confidence is an absolute must... Although running on the seat of your pants and winging it all the way to the goal is a very constructive learning curve.

Ensure that no one feels like the day is a chore.

Use your spare time to think about how things are going to work... Not how they will fail ;)

Say No to Veto... He won't be offended... He'll probably like the day off to share with his Lady Tequila.

:cheers

Hi Guys, I cannot make it to any BELIEVE event making thing on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of August... Its my 28th wedding anniversary and my husband is allowing me to go to the game without too much persuasion.. but I really don't see him letting me be gone all weekend.. Sorry.. Maybe if there is something that needs to be sewn or whatever then I could do it at home in the week leading up to the Roosters Game. Trish

Thanks Trish, appreciate the sewing offer, and enjoy your anniversary!

Also good ideas BUZ... but I think my optimism got the better of me.

I think we definitely need to get more banners into the crowd - preferably the CSSC. It's where the camera's automatically go for crowd reaction. We should have another banner workshop like the last one. Following the theme of Fitzy's giant flag that the Mermaids pull out onto the field, we should just make up a heap of smaller replicas, maybe 1 metre wide of so, on a single flagpole that every single member of The Cage could hold up and wave simultaneously. How good would that look?

These would need no writing or anything, just the sky blue with the twin black stripes and white in the middle, ala our classic hoop jersey. These would be very quick to make, I reckon. Should be able to sew up 50 or so in an hour with a couple of skilled sewing machine operators going at it like last time.
I posted this on the main forum, but this is from 1978. The simple flags don't look too bad:
