Firstly, I disagree with indicating Ben Ross was a unsmart signing, yes he got injuried and hardly played, BUT, that was unlucky and could of happened to any player, for example Tupou, Gals or Barrett, yes he hardly played but we were unlucky, heaps of people hate him, but at least he would still charge into the line when he was fit to play and did put in some heart.

Back onto Beau, this guy is so much better than both our centres defensively you cant compare them, he would bolster the right flank massively, in attack he has not really been given many chances this year as they continually attack to Morris's flank all the time. I really dont think his' attack is that far behind Collis's.

I never indicated that Ben's signing was unsmart. What I was trying to indicate was the danger in signing a player based on the criterion that they have played Origin. The first danger in this is that the two sides obviously have differing selection criteria!

Whilst I agree with your summation of Benny and the Sharks, I'm sure you would agree that his price tag of ≈ 400Kp/a was set by his Manager because of the Origin tag.

Back on to Beau, as I stated earlier, I think he is the beneficiary of a strong coaching structure, and I ask again "Do the Sharks have a structure that will continue to lift that [Beau's] bottom line?"

Our goal line defense is absolutely non existant, he would help majorily with that, at the moment if any club gets a set at our line they score, yes we need strike attacking players but at the moment we also need defensive players as well, I would take him in a second, (even if it meant having to chuck either him or Collis to left centre)

Tell you what any changes to our left hand flank are going to be bonuses, as at the moment it is absolutely shocking.

Pom has been going well in attack but getting found out in defense, Covel has been having a shocker in both.

No way can we run out with that pairing next week, if we do Flano really has no idea.

scott is starting to do more ball playing now, since he moved into the 2nd row then he was at the centre.

Best thing could have happen, he is starting to play freely doesnt look to upset about the move.

Doubtful he will come to the sharks, but if he did he wouldnt go into the centres

.

Shouldn't the coach be working on that ? I mean we have 2 rep players out there - most clubs would kill to have 2 rep players on their flanks

Mark Gasnier's return no bother for Beau Scott

Mark Gasnier's return no bother for Beau Scott

HE WAS the NSW Origin centre who became the first fall guy of the return of prodigal Dragon, Mark Gasnier, to the club.

Just weeks after making his NSW debut, Beau Scott literally lost the shirt off his back to the former Test star.

But as Wayne Bennett and those close to the Picton junior know, there was never any threat of a dummy spit from the player the mastercoach says simply gives everything for the team.

"I don't think it was a blow to my ego or anything like that," Scott said yesterday, opening up for the first time on the issue. "Gaz is a Test player so I have got no issues with it at all. Personally I do what's best for the team.

"It's not like I'm getting thrown into a position I haven't played before or are not comfortable in playing, so I look forward to the challenge of being a bit versatile.

"If anything it can help me and help my game and having the opportunity to play both positions, especially centre for NSW, can't hurt my resume down the track."

Thrust into the backline with the arrival of Bennett at Wollongong last year, Scott was initially a makeshift solution to cover the loss of Gasnier and deliver some defensive starch to the right side.

But after proving his mettle in the backline last year, NSW selectors heeded Bennett's call to select the former Cronulla back-rower to mark Greg Inglis in Origin II and III this year and he was one of the few Blues to emerge with his reputation intact.

For the unassuming Scott, it was a selection he never dared to dream of and that lack of pretension explains why Bennett never had any concerns how the 26-year-old would deal with Gasnier's return.

Lining up against Manly on Sunday, Scott will pack in to the second-row and play inside Gasnier in attack, but will reprise his role at centre in defence to partner Jamie Soward.

Preparing for his third finals series, Scott admitted the Dragons failed to lift for last year's big games when they were beaten by Parramatta and Brisbane.

"It's a different sort of football and it was a wake-up call from last year that we really need to go out and put our best foot forward from the get-go," he said. "The experience from last year is going to be vital."

The Dragons entered last year's finals in fading form and utility forward Matt Prior admits the fatigue of their arm-wrestle style was a factor.

"We grind games out and we compete for the 80 minutes, so it definitely does take a lot out of us and we were a bit tired last year," Prior said. "But I think we're a lot better for it this year.

"We've had a few more breaks and taken every chance to freshen up and everyone is feeling good."

???

Just wondering what the story is with Beau Scott, just about every game he plays he gets in an argument which leads to a bit of a push around and that's about it. My point being that nobody ever seems to want to take it any further like they are scared of him, I also heard in last night's commentary ( I thinks it was Rabbits ) saying that he had heard that " Scott is someone you don't mess with". Just curious what the story is, is he an awesome bluer or what? :cheers
