I’m not overly happy with the appointment. I know we can’t keep looking backwards to Lyall, but he was a first class sports administrator with proven experience in managing a club towards success.

I’d rather someone with no affiliation to sharks, or even Rugby League, if they had experience in managing successful clubs/brands.

Wish him all the best but the appointments doesn’t make me feel like we’ve done the best we could. Hope I’m wrong.

The biggest challenge will be the power dynamic with Flanno - who has the greater support of the Board?

Shane likes to run his ship exclusively his way without any interference and purely sees the back office as funds-providers and governance-janitors.

Time will tell.

He'll need to have a good relationship with McAleer as well, no way of telling if they get on at all.

Sponsorship manager is good experience.

Has obvious footy experience.

Those are the upsides.

Will remain open minded.

Yea I'm sure we have had CEO's with less business acumen in the past - I feel his experience working in NRL & Commercial roles is being discounted a tad. It's not like he has been packing shelves at woolies for 20 years.

It's a big step up position wise so I'm sure he will be keen to work hard and make the most of it, people don't start out as CEO's they need to be given that opportunity. Alternatively we could have had some rusted on suit just looking for a paycheck while ticking some boxes and saying job done.

I understand the trepidation around former players running the club but it may play out in our favour in terms of him forming a working relationship with ol Flanno.

There will be learnings along the way I am certain but I'm willing to look at the positives and give him a chance.
