England-bound forwards Danny Buderus and Michael Crocker have been included in the Australian squad for rugby league's World Cup in October.

Australian coach Ricky Stuart will have the two alongside 11 uncapped players in a 46-man squad, despite earlier insisting that players leaving the NRL would not feature in his selection plans.

The squad includes 11 players yet to debut for Australia at senior level - Ben Cross, Robbie Farah, Michael Jennings, Anthony Lafranchi, Joel Monaghan, Nate Myles, Josh Perry, Glenn Stewart, Anthony Watmough, Justin Poore and Anthony Quinn.

Defending premiers Melbourne Storm top the representation with 10 players.

France-bound centre Mark Gasnier was not included.

Stuart says although he was not involved in the selection process he has no complaints.

"I made an opinion about what I feel is a league's decision about players going to England," he said.

"The form of Danny Buderus and Michael Crocker warrants their selection in this squad. And if they continue on that form they'll warrant selection in regards to the World Cup."

West Tigers hooker Farah, Penrith's Jennings and St George Illawarra's Poore are among players whose good form has been rewarded with a chance for World Cup game time.

Stuart said today's squad announcement would give all players with hopes of representing the Kangaroos in the 29-day tournament something to think about in the final rounds of the NRL.

"When you look at the players that they've picked they're very proven at this level," he said.

"They're players that have been in good form for their clubs as well."

Mitchell Pearce and Peter Wallace were left out of the squad despite winning Origin selection for the Blues.

"Mitchell goes along with young Wallace. It's very difficult but it's a squad that they've picked and we're very happy with," said Stuart.

"We will choose the final team of 24 on October 6 after the NRL grand final," he said in a statement.

"The final team can include players not featured in the squad announced today, which serves to put players on notice that the Cup is just around the corner and selectors are closely monitoring form.

"The announcement is a reminder to those named that selectors are looking at them very seriously.

"To those who are disappointed at not being named, there is still some work to be done, but they are by no means out of contention."

Australia's first game will be against New Zealand in Sydney in October.

no dougie..what an outrage, selectors have f*cked up again by picking useless players

For starters its a 46 man preliminary squad picked 3 months out from the WC. It doesn't mean a great deal. I mean, no one honestly believes Justin Poore will get a green and gold jersey, do they?

And they didn't f-ck up and select useless players. You could make 3 teams that'd practically breeze through the competition from that squad.

There are so many quality players in the competition someone is always gonna be hard done by. Douglas obviously isn't doing something right compared to last year when he got recognized and picked for Country. Since then he hasn't even been mentioned for rep footy. He's in a good position though with the National coach as his club coach so hopefully if he does need to pick up somewhere, Sticky has the information available to pass on.

im pointing out white, cross, anasta, hoffman, mason, myles, perry, poore, quinn and simpson.

I'll agree, a lot aren't what I would have picked. I agree White is powder puff and just like a lot of Storm players, is rubbish outside of that particular team that makes ordinary footballers look like super stars. Put Hoffman in this category too. Cross goes alright and I could take him or leave him. Anasta we won't agree on, but he's a must. Mason will always be picked for every rep team, regardless of form. If he turns it on, he goes good though. Perry, as much as I hate to say it is probably the form prop and deserves a jumper. Myles goes good. Quinn stepped up in Origin, but really NSW backline need not apply haha, Simpson and Poore are just filler.

Ricky always seems to get Mason going the only coach I have seen so far that can do it, its a shame in that respect that we didn't get him.

No spot for Bailey but Laffranchi a `Test mainstay' - Gold Coast News

Source:http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=...-8TZBA&usg=AFQjCNFJXG9-Dnoj-xqSNctDdhaucASDIQ

No spot for Bailey but Laffranchi a `Test mainstay'

Luke Turgeon
August 2nd, 2008

COURAGEOUS Titans skipper Luke Bailey has hailed teammate Anthony Laffranchi as a future Australian Test stalwart, putting his own disappointment aside after missing out on selection in the Kangaroos World Cup squad.

Laffranchi and his Titans teammate Scott Prince were yesterday named by national coach Ricky Stuart in a 46-man initial squad.

Bailey was considered a chance to gain a spot, with many believing he had done enough in the early rounds to warrant selection. But the uncompromising workhorse copped his World Cup snub on the chin, despite the fact he would be back to full fitness by the time the 29-day contest -- which will showcase 10 countries -- kicks off on October 26.

"I didn't really hold much hope after being ruled out for the year," said the former Test and NSW front rower, who has been restricted to just nine games for the Titans this year following a broken arm and a recent season-ending ankle injury.

Bailey has been one of Laffranchi's greatest supporters since the pair became teammates last season.

The former St George Illawarra big man was one of the first to call for Laffranchi to be handed a NSW jumper, which the Murwillumbah product achieved this season, playing all three State of Origin games for the Blues.

Despite currently being sidelined with a broken arm, Queensland halfback Prince has been named as back-up for incumbent Johnathan Thurston, alongside Melbourne's Cooper Cronk and South Sydney's Craig Wing.

Including Laffranchi, there are 11 players in the squad who are yet to debut for the Kangaroos. They are Knights prop Ben Cross, Tigers hooker Robbie Farah, Panthers centre Michael Jennings, Raiders centre Joel Monoghan, Roosters prop Nate Myles, Manly prop Josh Perry and backrowers Glenn Stewart and Anthony Watmough, Dragons prop Justin Poore and Storm winger Anthony Quinn.

The squad will be whittled down to 24 on October 6, the day after the NRL grand final.

Titans under-20s winger David Moore was also celebrating yesterday after he was named in the 49-man Papua New Guinea squad for the World Cup, which will be spearheaded by English Super League veteran Stanley Gene and Canberra's Neville Costigan.

Australian Squad: Titans: Scott Prince, Anthony Laffranchi. Storm: Michael Crocker, Cooper Cronk, Israel Folau, Ryan Hoffman, Greg Inglis, Dallas Johnson, Anthony Quinn, Billy Slater, Cam Smith, Brett White. Broncos: Justin Hodges, Karmichael Hunt, Darren Lockyer, Sam Thaiday. Roosters: Braith Anasta, Craig Fitzgibbon, Willie Mason, Nate Myles, Anthony Tupou. Sea Eagles: Brent Kite, Josh Perry, Anthony Watmough, Brett Stewart, Glenn Stewart. Knights: Danny Buderus, Ben Cross, Kurt Gidley, Steve Simpson. Dragons: Matt Cooper, Ben Creagh, Justin Poore. Cowboys: Carl Webb, Johnathan Thurston, Luke O'Donnell. Sharks: Greg Bird, Paul Gallen. Panthers: Petero Civoniceva, Michael Jennings. Warriors: Steve Price, Brent Tate. Tigers: Robbie Farah. Eels: Jarryd Hayne. Raiders: Joel Monoghan. Rabbitohs: Craig Wing.

Capital shark is right, hoffman is useless and white may as well go and play womens netball. It will be interesting to see how the pom goes against cooper and/or gasnier if he plays, as he is good enough to be one starting centre for australia. Luke is unlucky as always but he will get his chance next year.
