As mentioned before, he is arguably the best option available. If developing the younger guys was the plan (which is yet to be seen) Maloney is the best band-aid fix. Not that it's even a band-aid... Quality player.

Chad's yet to be announced as signed yet, wondering if the clubs holding off on finalising a contract and want to sign Maloney instead of chad. They might have a Maloney & 1 of Brown/Barba/Bird in mind for a halves partnership next season.

Does make you wonder what goes on behind closed doors. But considering the word on Maloney really coming here has only been around for a week or two (not saying the rumor hasn't been around longer, or it hasn't been happening longer than that - but on here, I'd say thats a fair assessment of the chatter) surely throwing someone like Maloney into the mix would slow down the signing of Chad.

Maloney will be in Chads pocket (and vice versa) for the next 2-3 years should they both sign. Im sure there is a lot of time spent with Chads people talking to Maloneys people, and again vice versa. These guys have to at least see eye to eye. Dont have to love each other - but cant hate each other either. I would imagine there is some sort of compatibility test (psycho-analysis) to see if they will gel off the field, as well as on.

I cant imagine clubs, even ours, offer million dollar contracts to players without considering all aspects.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this.................

http://www.zerotackle.com/nrl/panthers-chase-moa-after-roosters-agree-release-17802/

"Penrith could be bolstered by the addition of another international forward with the Panthers in negotiations with Roosters prop Sam Moa for next season.

Fairfax Media has been told the Panthers have held several discussions with the New Zealand front-rower about joining the club next season alongside St George Illawarra lock Trent Merrin, who signed a three-year deal in March.

Moa still has another season to run with the Roosters, however it is understood the tri-colours have agreed to release the 28-year-old if he manages to strike a deal with another club.

While Penrith have expressed interest in Moa, his arrival at the foot of the mountains would be heavily dependent on the future of off-contract forwards Lewis Brown, Sika Manu and Adam Docker."

Moa and Merrin up front for Penny would be solid.

Roosters letting him go to free up money to keep Maloney? Is that how it works?

I'm no halves coach and have never been much chop with the kicking thing but I'd give it a go for say 30k a year.

I'd be all "so that didn't work so good but maybe next time swing your leg harder, try pointing your foot that way a bit next time" etc

I'd also punch the air a bit and say stuff like "get to it kid" and "whoa - that was crazy"

any chance I get the gig? Hard job to crack I know so won't take rejection too personal

pps I'm not sure whether high fives are still kosher but I'll tell you right now, no high fives and you'll have no Thresher, simple as - up to you guys now

Wait, people are making arguments against Maloney?!?

A player like that you would surely take straight away. He's not over-priced for what you get, which is a bloke that makes crap loads of line-break/try assists, can kick goals solidly to replace Gordon, would be an equally good kicker to balance out and share the general kicking duties with Chad Townsend (assuming he is a sure thing), can play either side of the field, and is a bloke that success seems to follow despite not being a marquee like DCE. Warriors improved a heck of a lot whilst he was there, same with Roosters.

2/3 years is the perfect timing as well. The youngsters can develop at their own pace whilst he ensures a solid first grade base. As I said the other day, putting all our eggs into the youngsters basket is so damn unwise.

I'd just like to say "We won the Grand Final".
I don't care how, but I'd like to say it at least once when I'm talking Sharkies before I drop off this merry go round!

The people against signing Maloney are probebly the same ones that were against signing Ennis and are now eating their words

Only an idiot would say no to Maloney! The same idiot that whinges about Robson but when a massive upgrade like Maloney is offered they turn it down

Enough said, sign him up, case closed

I'd rather we keep the money he demands cruise over to star city smash it all on red/even at roulette, or take a punt on one of the young "gandos" kids that shone in the primary school under 10's last week. ( if their local juniors) ... Please Lyal just get him here asap.
