You would have to think so, when it looked as though it was a good chance of him coming here there was speculation player x would me moved on or not re signed etc, they still have on their books Lyon, Matai & Stewart.

More recently Hiku re signed where at the time all the talk was he was going to the Warriors as they offered him big $$, so you would imagine he ended up staying for a decent size contract @ the Eagles, they have Nate Myles coming who again wouldn't be on average $$$.

They will end up having to upgrade the two young brothers they have coming through, interesting times ahead for the Eagles, I am pre empting at some point in the next few years they will be squealing through media channels how hard they have it or squealing about not being able to retain certain players.

Or squealing that it's not their fault they are over the Salary cap and they should get dispensation for DCE!

Cronulla Sharks board members are meeting tonight to discuss coach Shane Flanagan's future with the team.

Flanagan has a three year deal with the club and it can be reviewed at any time should the board decide the team is under performing.

Flanagan has had a checkered past with the embattled NRL club. He came close to being sacked in 2013 when he was stood down on full pay just two days before he was due to lead the side in their opening game of the season against Gold Coast.

A review found he, and four other staff members who did lose their jobs, did not properly report issues to the club's board from the 2011 season. These issues became the subject of an Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority investigation.

Flanagan was emotional at the time of his 2013 reinstatement and it has been a rocky ride for the coach ever since, both on the field and off.

Cronulla captain Paul Gallen was one of 10 NRL players to accept an ASADA deal that resulted in a 12-month ban, backdated to November 2013, for their involvement in the supplements program at the club in 2011.

Flanagan's open three year contract with the club ends after 2017.

If the board does this, I hope to Christ they do it properly this time!
Not like the Carney fiasco.
We don't want any repercussions/ legal action or otherwise to come from this.
If they are going to do it, then do it RIGHT!

Taken the board to now to realise we are under performing

To be fair welost 4 then started winning. Seeing as he didnt coach last year they probably thought 4 games wasnt enough to review at.

But being 3rd last and about to enter a **** run of away games i dont see an end to this slump.

I think its funny everyones been saying why did we not put kpi's in his contract. We are a speculative bunch

Mate of mine emailed Lyall on Monday after Sundays disaster (very politely) telling him that the performance was not good enough and questioned why Flanno was still at the helm.

Lyall emailed him back on Tuesday (at 5:22am.. very committed bloke) and said that he had received a heap of emails asking similar questions and that he understood the frustration, but that he and the board were working tirelessly to get the club on track.

Although he didnt mention Flanno specifically, it seemed pretty clear from the tone that he is not in Flanno's corner.

Besides a few of the players, is anyone actually convinced that Flanno can lead us through this?

If your talking about us, personally I did for a long time, I stayed patient and patient, even when he returned from suspension I thought he could get us back in the 8. That faith has completely evaporated. Time for a change.

I doubt our seasons going bad enough to sack him just yet based on that. I get the feeling that Lyall just doesn't seem him as the man for the job, which makes sense when you consider the style and management expertise of the last coach he worked with, Tony Popovic. Lyall's probably just looking for an excuse. That's an impression from events, no real facts.

Good suggestion Bundy. Unless Lyon moves to 6 next year, Hiku will probably be stuck on the wing again. And will be a highly paid one at that.

They have Gutherson and Trbojevic as cheaper wing options so might see room to let Hiku or Taufua go.

This kind of talk does my head in - it's so random, as in this guy is good, but never related to cap or need?

He's the man who lead us into this so he's certainly not the man to lead us out of it.
Never wanted him from the start.

I'm more than happy for him and the players to know the blowtorch is on them. But please if and when the tap on the shoulder comes the next appointment as coach needs to be the right fit... Remember price put a media ban on himself I think when he 1st took over at drags, seriously hate that crap, We need someone who is media savvy and respected amongst the scribes.

Bit of an open question CrazyMatt, but Im the exact same. Thought he was the scapegoat for the whole Asada thing and supported the whole 'Flanno for Flanno' initiative to get him back, but that just seems so long ago now.

What sort of talk? Hiku?

Doesn't it go without saying that we would find room for a class young centre? And we could obviously afford him with Gordon, Ayshford and Leutele all off contract.

Surely there's a lot more rubbish chat on here than discussing how today's events might play out for the rest of Manly's squad.
