DO you think he's worth the previously talked up $800k?(if that's what the offer is) I don't .

I also don't think he's half as effective as Gal at prop.

I doubt that figure is accurate.

About two years ago Price shifted him to lock. Before that he was one of the top props in the game. He's got a huge engine and his numbers - prior to this falling out with the Club - are elite. If he were six inches taller people would be falling over themselves to sign him... he doesn't look like much be he's enormously effective. Especially under good coaching.

He's rarely out injured and can play 80 minutes comfortably. You get value from him every week, every season.

I also have a good deal of faith in whoever it is looking after our books. I don't think we've paid obviously over the odds for probably 5 years. Some players probably haven't provided what we hoped but they weren't doing it on Tupou or Ross like contracts. I very much doubt that any offer to Merrin would stop us signing a playmaker given we've already made an offer to the most expensive half on the market.

Without knowing the details and the salary cap breakdown I think its generally a futile exercise assessing wages vs performance beyond matching elite pay to elite performance and plodder pay to plodder performance etc. Merrin' next 3-5 years will be elite. Sign him up.

Lewis is Def gone. Cannot see heighno going again either. Maybe tupou resigns.

We need to go hard for Lolo. I definitely see a return for peach om the cards. DCE to gold coast means they would have to release some top tier guys so I can see Sezer and Greg bird coming here. Think about it before you all have a go

Merrin is an overrated overweight that who thinks he is better and worth more than Fifita.

I'd rather pay that money for Taumololo.

I don't believe Merrin being overweight is an issue.... not unless you want a Greek God playing for us just so he can LOOK great on the field. Merrin has the stamina of the fittest of "non-fatties" in the league, in which case being overweight (even if he was) is no issue at all. It's not like he's George "10 minutes a game" Rose. Merrin happily plays a good solid 80 mins EVERY time he's asked to.

Having said that in his defence, I'm not sold we need him.

In the past we've on-sold "unripened fruit" in that same prop position who turned out ok.... example Keith Galloway and Sam Moa. Let's just try to grab DCE and sit on guys like Houma and D Fifita for the season and see what fruit matures this time rather than go shopping for expensive fruit elsewhere.

try and set up a menage a trois, see if you can get some secrets whispered between the sheets

If I can get the answer the entire rugby league community wants to know surely that will make me the next rugby league mole or league freak?

Mate, we'd have a bit more respect for you if you talked a bit more about how you have come to these conclusions. You're saying these things with absolutely no basis at all. Someone a few posts back asked you a direct question about DCE not liking Gal but you totally ignored that. Put two and two together and it all equals speculation.

I don't mean to pigeon hole you as I also wonder where others are getting their info about DCE signing here but they present the information better than you do, it comes across as more believable. Please Cesare, I don't mean to offend you, truly I don't, but for everyone on here to respect you a bit, you need to put more substance into your conclusions.

haha, certain sacrifices need to be made for the team

I just hope for your sake that it's not Foran's identical twin sister ;)

G'damn I love reading this thread so much. :drunk

On Merrin - For a reasonable price I'd have him and be real happy, $600k no worries. Crap that has been mentioned, like $850k or whatever on some of the RL media sources, is far more than his worth on the field. He's no Paul Gallen, he's also no Fifita. He's like a poor-man's Corey Parker. Poor-man's Parker is still pretty damn good though.

Perfect world, we get him for $600k, play him at Lock, and move Gallen to the front row for his final year (or two), and also get DCE, and move on some of the old 2nd rowers we have.

Perfect World = we get Inglis (to play centre) and Thurston at half.... but I'd settle for a really really really good world (would make a nice change)
