Depends what we are paying Katoa. I don't think it would be too much - not so much that if Stonestreet out-performed him and got his spot that Katoa in reggies would throw the balance of our cap out.

There's plenty of great outside backs floating around. Especially young ones - every club has one.

I am sure Fitz has had a chat to Stonestreet and said something along the lines of.. if you are the best option in the spot, you will be playing there on the weekend. As a fan, that's all I want. The best player in each position. Whether that's a young stud or an old head makes no difference to me. I think we get too excited about shiny new toys sometimes. Katoa is a pretty ****ing good winger.

I feel like this is the case a lot.

There is a lot to be said about continuity of positions in defence. I think that if we can keep the majority of our squad together we will continue to see results and have a shot at another premiership. Sure upgrade where you can, but the grass is not always greener and some shiny new toys suck when you actually go to use them.

Haven't really bought into the conversation about SS leaving if we kept Katoa.

Both Hiroti and Ikuvalu on final year of contract, one of them gets a new deal announced then I'll start worrying.

If he’s not willing to fight for a place then he hasn’t got the right mentality for this club anyway.

How about we stop handing these young players everything and actually make them fight for it, it might improve their attitudes. If he wants the spot, go take it off Katoa or **** off.

Yeah he might **** off like Matt King did, like Curtis Scott did and how Josh Ado Carr did before they even played one first grade game for the Sharks and win a premiership like they did……

Matt King retired after sustaining an injury in our reserve grade team, came back at the storm as a free agent.

JAC won his first premiership in 2017, after ours, he was also originally a South's junior, not Cronulla.

And Curtis Scott is literally human garbage so who gives a **** about him?

How many players did we pinch off other clubs, especially around our premiership?
At the end of the day it's a balancing act and no-one really knows what a player is going to be like in 2-3 years, especially the younger ones. Burgo's boy will be taller than half of them by that time

I'm sure he will, doesn't mean he'll be good there.

I know you love him because he's English, I don't get the fascination with him as a FB though.
Its not because hes English.
Its because he has genuine pace, ability to beat the first man and break the line + good positional awareness
Think he'll be a revelation there

He has the physical skills and is good between the ears.

Agree
Getting ahead of these guys is Stonestreets issue right now, that will give him opportunities.
He can worry about getting better than Katoa then. Take one of those opportunities and hold onto it if you are good enough.

What about Lumelume? He went to Storm too. JAC went via Tigers. If we had our time over I wouldn't let Scott go, I'd push him out the ****en door.

King was 20yrs ago. What about players who left for someone other than the most dominant team of the last couple decades?

As it stands Katoa going & winning a comp would be more of a loss than SS doing it as we've piled years in to make Katoa what he is now. Someone else would get the ROI while we start again with the next guy (to pick the next guy over again? where's it stop?)

Things could be a lot worse. Re-signing a fantastic winger and elite finisher for the long term without breaking the bank. Our outside backs come in at a very reasonable rate compared to some sides, and when it comes to finishing and yardage they're easily in the top 2/3. Sione is a ****ing joy to watch too so I am glad he will be here and not at the merge.

Hopefully this signing momentum keeps rolling into Rd 1 and we can get Jesse, Nicho, Teig and Will done soon.

Wonder if we'll continue the trend and make a signing for 2024 before season starts.

Piece by Piece, we seem to be fitting the Puzzle for a 2/3 yr tilt at the Premiership Window. Just somehow i can't shake the feeling from our straight sets bounce out, of a somewhat ongoing soft forward underbelly, however. But Rudolph's recent words, are encouraging.

So what if he leaves.

Katoa is better than him right now and likely is for at least next couple of seasons.

Then if we want we steal some other kid stuck behind someone at another club.
IDing the best talent at each stage is more valuable than specifically having Stonestreet.
**** it let him leave for three years then sign him back if you want, that’s not illegal.

If you want to just let everyone go in case a barely known promising junior leaves where do you stop.

Sure they can take another option. Go to a **** club for a little more money (he ain’t so flash looking anyone will pay big bucks) to sit on the wing and lose every week, probably get dropped a bunch, instead of playing 10+ games a year for us (most likely) until you have won the spot.

Maybe McLean should leave Panthers he’s behind Too May Turuva and Jenkins isn’t he? No point him staying at a great club where he fits in and will be given the opportunities he deserves.
(He’s now expected to start round 1)
McLean is a fullback. If he ends up as good as they think he will, he will leave because he is stuck behind Edwards. That will be a few years from now though.

Yeah it's definitely a good signing, I love Kotoa. Just not sure about three years, that's all.
