we're not going to win out even if he does sign?

look, on the spectrum you're on, that literally makes no sense

I know this involves thinking more than one step ahead, so happy to explain.
(anyone thinking I don't have patience hasn't seen my continued conversations with you...)
The way things are playing out, we're in an ever deepening hole. It's basically at the point where we have to sign him... which Reynolds is rightly explioting by dragging out negotiations as long as possible and saying things like he'll move if need be. All the pressure is on us, and as a result we'll almost certainly end up paying more than we wanted to, on a longer deal than anyone thinks he should get. That's a loss as far as I'm concerned. He's good, but for all the talk he's not the next Maloney. He doesn't have that aura. And we sure as **** don't have an Ennis, Gallen, Barba or Val to help him out. And we won't get them if we blow our full load on Reynolds.

Btw, I've nothing against Reynolds. He's a really good player and seems a decent guy. If I were he, negotiating my final contract with two (or more) clubs I couldn't give two ****s about, who are in serious dire straits, I'd absolutely squeeze them for all their worth. Fair play to him.

Maka da sense now Snowy?

Only thing for Reynolds to consider is does he want to spend his last few years struggling or not. If he squeezes an extra 200k from us a year, 1mil instead of 800k, then where does that extra 200k come from? Most likely given our current roster we end up with 400k instead of 600k (or similar numbers) to spend on either his partner or a prop. Or spread the damage and instead of our first choice partner for him and 1st choice prop to sign we have to settle for second or third of each. May be fighting over a relatively small % of the cap but the way we are sitting right now it could make a significant difference.
Could mean difference between struggling for finals vs fighting for the promised top 4.

Or maybe it just means player 19 and 20 are closer to min wage than 250k, which only matters if they end up playing a lot of the season.

He's getting great money either way, does he want to sacrifice any of it to make his next 3 years easier/better.

2 years max for Reynolds and we get 1 good year. We have been down this road before. Dugan, Moylan, Woods. How quickly people forget.

Lewis, Ennis, Smith, etc - How quickly people forget. All signings aren't the same.

2 years and we don't get him, unless we pay massive overs.
Three years I expect 2 good years from him and hopefully by the third we have his replacement fighting for the jersey anyway and can afford him not available every round.

Reports that Coates has signed with Melbourne. Can see Brisbane getting desperate and throwing $1.1M at Reynolds.

Would have been good in a Sharks jersey. Guys like him and Isaako are going to dominate for the next half decade (in decent teams)

Staggs resigned with Brisbane. He said he Was holding off until he knew who was gonna be the halfback. Could be a indication that broncos think they have Reynolds

We should be offering decent cash to those Souths junior halves, Taffe and Elias. I've said before they must be really good if Souths are willing to trade out their club Captain.

You don't think Deardon had the star power to get Staggs over the line..?
