Reports that the two NRL clubs seeking the services of English international centre for next season are Canberra Raiders and the Cronulla Sharks.

isn't he a Forward ?
Wigan and England forward John Bateman is reportedly being courted by the Cronulla Sharks and Canbera Raiders for the 2019 NRL season as he weighs up his playing future.

Would prefer a true centre not a second rower who “can fill in at centre in need” as we already have one of those in Capewell.

Also who cares what he can do in the Pommy comp. Could be cannon fodder over here no matter where ya put him.

But it seems you go for the forwards from over there, most have made a good fist of it from Morley, Ellis, Graham, Burgesseseses, Hodgson to name a few standouts. The backs not so much; their Billy Slater was our Nathan Gardner.

Bateman is a 2nd row forward who came through at my club Bradford Bulls before we had to sell him because of our financial problems. We have a good production line of forwards who have made it in the NRL as Sam Burgess, the Burgess twins and Elliot Whitehead were all Bulls players along with Bateman.

Seems to have filled in for England at centre as we are always short of decent centres in England but he is definitely a back rower. Made his debut when he was 17 and you could tell immediately that he was different class to a lot of our players at the time. Him & Whitehead were our 2nd row partnership at the time and I always rated Bateman higher. Not followed him as much since he went to Wigan but i’m sure he’d do a great job for us and add some good depth even though we have some great young forwards like Williams and Sorenson at the moment.

Unless maybe Flanno has plans to turn him into a regular centre??

He is from Bradford, just down the road from me, so would be a dream for me to watch a local lad play for the Sharkies!!!
