Here's a quote from fox sports article which explains everything:
"The Roosters have added Cooper Cronk and James Tedesco to their roster this season but the release of Mitchell Pearce means they have the salary cap space to accommodate Williams’ return."

+ Pearce on reported $800, there's $3.8m already and don't forget a few fringe players they let go. Easy $5m available under their cap still.

They can't say the loss of SKD, Gureea, Watson, Gordon etc helped secure Cooper and Tedesco and then use the same line for $BW as well.

The roosters don't have the best depth. They have some key super star players, but after their starting 13 don't have much to boast about.
