Bring back Carney!

Worked for Flanno.

I wonder how Todd would feel about it. Obviously he has no problem with the players or coaching staff, Lyall is a new appointment, its the board that holds that key really. We couldnt get him here this year (cap) but we'd easily squeeze him in next season.

I just dont see it happening though

I wonder what the chances are of Manly drawing up a contract and trying to get Todd Carney back in the NRL now Foran/DCE are gone..

Watching the chooks game I wouldn't mind getting Malone & Napa & maybe even Evans across to us next year.

Yep Malone and Evans would be great along with Carney While we are deamin how good would it be to have the two Burgess boys and the Souths 1/2 and 5/8 How good are they!

To be fair, the Sharks have been trying to build a no ********s culture for a while now and change our public perception, well before the new board and noyce came in. Bird and Seymour for instance were both players very important to our team but were cut after ****ing up and dragging the Sharks brand through the mud in the media

Souths have the strongest brand in the competition and can afford the odd scandal in the interests of keeping their roster together - they won't get slammed by the media for it cause everyone loves them apparently. If we got caught covering something up we would still be hearing about it at every press conference and every Sharks article

I'm not saying what Noyce did was a right or wrong black or white situation but I don't think we can so simply compare ourselves with other clubs and how they deal with misbehaving players. Our recent history and brand perception is so much more delicate

Our 'moral' actions may not have netted us a sponsor just yet but it's a long term re-branding and strategy, not something done with necessarily short term gains
The challenge is that we still need to perform on the field or our brand won't be that desirable either and frankly Carney is one of the few players that could turn our fortunes around

Tough situation

To add to my post above, if we were winning games and looking good on the field we probably wouldn't be having the same discussion about Carney. We were all excited getting Barba's signature as a replacement but it appears that may not work out for us as well as we hoped which was never going to be easy to predict by the board, fans ect.

A couple of games in and it is now evident Flanno has not adapted to being without Carney and as long as he remains coach we may well need him or a player with his attributes in the squad to be competitive again.
A better coach would be getting better performances out of this team, Carney or not. Our squad is decent, our coach is not.

Manly was my bet too if he were to come back to the NRL. I'm sure it's been brought up in conversation at some point.

Good points, the problem was the story broke real late sat nite or Sunday morning by Sunday arvo he was sacked, that certainly looks like due process wasn't followed if noyce pre determined he was going to sack him let him come in give some lip service then Bullet him Monday morning. For the record would love carney the player back but unfortunately that would mean getting carney the man back as well which really has no appeal.
