Laughing at people thinking we have any chance at Barba - he'll stay in Brisbane
He's totes gonna come here for $80k, and DCE will come the year after for big unders. Also Gallen will stick to being a prop and will avoid touching the ball in our attacking 20, Ennis will be made captain, Flanno will be sacked, Lewis will retire from rep footy with immediate effect and we won't have any more negative Daily Telegraph articles about us in the next 12 months.

That isn't a hard feat, Carney was an arm slapper. In Barba's first three games at 5/8 he missed 3 tackles. The fewest of any brisbane player in that time.
It's one of those cases where the stats tell a different story depending where you get them from (I think the stats from The Age had those 3 tackles in 3 league games as well).

The NRL stats (Which were a bit dodgy all year tbh) have him as missing 10 tackles in the 3 games during regular season, and 3 in that final against Nth Qld. So they say it's an average of about 12-13 tackles per game and about 3 missed per game, which is still not horrible for someone that is a newbie to defending in the line as a half.

He's not playing the same as his Dally M winning year, I think the 5/8 might actually be his best position now. He lacked involvement at fullback but it changed in the halves, looked much more dangerous and still suited his strong support play.

I really hope we don't sign an expensive half for next year because I don't rate what's available and it would be nice to see the club work with some in house talent for a year. Save the financial ammo for 2016.

CHOGM, I don't really understand this thought that is often mentioned. Don't spend money now so we can spend more in the future. I'm pretty sure the salary cap doesn't quite work like that. You could try and front end some players, however they'd be under no obligation to do it and I'm not certain the NRL would allow it as it is a clear manipulation of the spirit of the cap. Back ending is common but it's much easier to argue a player gets more in later years of a contact in the same way an employee of any business can expect pay increases the longer they are in a job.

If we have the money under the cap it is not a waste to spend it and we are kidding ourselves if we think we'll land a DCE quality half in 2016.

One reason Barba is a good option is that he can play in the backline when needed, something someone like Reynolds can't do. Of course Reynolds is a better half, but our team's strangling itself and we need someone to ease the pressure before we choke to death again.

MANLY SET TO ANNOUNCE MATEO COUP
SPORTAL – OCTOBER 27, 2014
POSTED IN: ANTHONY WATMOUGH, FELETI MATEO, MANLY SEA EAGLES, NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS, NEWS, PARRAMATTA EELS
Feleti Mateo

The New Zealand Warriors are set to officially release Feleti Mateo and he will announce a two-year deal at Manly within the next 24 hours.

There were doubts over the deal in recent days, with Manly’s ownership struggle raising the possibility of star back-rower Anthony Watmough staying at Brookvale.

But the Sea Eagles have splashed out big dollars for ball-playing forward Mateo, meaning that Watmough is almost certainly on his way to Parramatta.

Watmough is under contract to Manly for 2015 but the two clubs are currently working on a deal to see him move to the Eels.

yeh i have never quote understood that either, if we go into 2015 1 million under the cap, we dont get an extra million in 2016, we would just have power for mid season signings

Agree Mateo could be a very good get with the right coaching. Does any one know if we have shut up shop regarding signings for next year .

I find it a bit disturbing that we let Noyce go before we had a replacement locked in and we really have not been in the Market for one or two big mobile props( NZ PROVED THIS IN THE TEST ) Ennis is our only top of the line catch so far and still no details on our half situation.

Overall and again it looks like top management have let us down.

What are ya thoughts on going into the season so far under the cap potentially? Worth having the money there for mid-season or spend it for the start of the season?

If we don't spend the full cap but have the full 25 players - do we get to spend the money elsewhere? If so I can understand trying to save money - we could use the cash flow.
