I really don't see the point of signing Brett Kearney. As you say HB, signing a 31 year old over the likes of Brown and Holmes really sends the wrong message to our young players. Although that message has been sent quite a lot lately!

Wayne Bennett quits as Knights coach. You would have to say he will move back to St George or there has always been an axe over Cartwrights head. Does he make the move home.

I think Darius Boyd has a clause with Bennett.

I hate Boyd with a passion but geez he'd look good in the centres, only because I want to see Holmes at FB. It looks pretty bad when you leave three clubs to follow a coach though,so I wonder if he'll stay. He might just go for the pay day?

I would prefer Gagai to Boyd.
A quality Half and Gagai would provide the 2 missing links to a very successful Sharks team next year.

Would you really want to recruit a 31 year old to take a spot from Holmes or Brown? Kearney isn't a halfback either.
I know he is a fullback. All spots are up for grabs next year and should go to the best players or combinations.
Holmes is untested, might get injured, might be better in the wing for a year. Gordon might get injured and will be older. If we can afford options we should take them.

Holmes and Flash is enough cover for FB imo without requiring someone of Kearney's experience. Spots are always up for grabs but Holmes should be getting first crack at it, starting with some games this year. If we didn't have an 80 minute hooker next year Kearney would be good off the bench IF his form was at the same standard as a few years ago.

Nothing wrong with options but someone like Kearney isn't going to come back if there's a chance he'd be playing in the reggies.

Gagai and Gagan... gayest right combo in the comp right there, in a good way.

Every player is a chance of playing reggies, unless they're one of a handful of untouchable stars. No contract guarantees first grade surely. If he's paid good money to have another crack at the nrl then it shouldn't matter that he has to compete. We can't pin our fullback hopes on a guy untested in FG, and Gordon may never get back to his best.

And everyone on this forum seems to think Ennis will play 80 because he can. Flanno may have other ideas.

We can certainly get away with just those two, especially if have a winger or two capable of covering fullback.

Would love to see Gards stay here on the cheap though.

That's just it, I wouldn't be paying him good money given I believe we have the positions he can play covered. It's obviously good to have depth, but not at an inflated price.
