:Yes:The only reason Gould is considered one of the game's great "thinkers" is that the competition for such a title is so poor.

Well said. The only reason Gould is considered one of the game's great "thinkers" is that the competition for such a title is so poor.

As an aside. I ****ing hate that expression.Gus has forgot more about league than most of us know
The lack of actual analysis of the game by the commentary and football shows in general is terribly low.
There's really a lot they could talk about if they wanted to- game plans, strategy, structures, weaknesses etc etc.
But no. We don't get that. We get some blow hard blowing smoke rings about the "star power" of SBW. Most of the time without even explaining WHY he is good. We are meant to love him because he is a star, because they told us so. And that's that.
I think they need to bring in some people who have recently been involved in the NRL coaching game to share their thoughts and break down the plays on a specialist show. They did it with Gus during a finals series a couple of years ago and it was really quite good. It's a bit of hard work though and a lot of video analysis.
It's little wonder there's no respect for the sport outside of devotees. Despite many peoples initial impression, it could actually be presented as a thinking man's game.
Is it the Game Plan that does a little bit of that? The lack of actual analysis of the game by the commentary and football shows in general is terribly low.

Is it the Game Plan that does a little bit of that?
It's really good to watch when people actually break the game down and talk about why things happen.
The Footy Show is embarrassing and a bore.
They do it a bit but not as much as I'd like. Would be good as a pre-game show before they do all their hype stuff. Is it the Game Plan that does a little bit of that?

Was that sometime ago or more of a recent rumbling.Penrith have backs like we have second rowers.rumblings that we were after him
I think one of the main obstacles is that the RL community is pretty tight and there probably wouldn't be many experts willing to be as frank on TV as is necessary sometimes.
It would be perfect as a pre-game show IMO. I would also like to see a show that offers more. They do it a bit but not as much as I'd like. Would be good as a pre-game show before they do all their hype stuff.
Yep yet another area that AFL ****s all over league. AFL is so well run **** it makes me jealous.Maybe. There are quite a few quality AFL shows, very analytical and critical. Really annoys me we don't get the same level of quality in League shows.

its a percentage thing, hate it all you want its trueAs an aside. I ****ing hate that expression.
I don't get it. Most people forget more about a subject than what they know. I've forgotten more about League myself than what I know... Why is it considered admirable that someone has forgotten more about something than what I know? What good is the knowledge they've forgotten? Maybe it should be "Gus Gould knows more about football than what you've forgotten"
