Being in a sports team squad vying for positions and getting a specific job title are pretty different...

Not being in a sports team. Deciding to take a role in a sports team. I'd expect most are looking for a specific opportunity, and if you're good enough you get the chance to choose. You just have to back yourself to make it work long term.
And sure, the club might shuffle you around, but then it's up to the player to do what's 'best for the team' or not. We've seen plenty of players look for greener pastures because they don't get the job (or keep the job) they want.

Mate, you're sensationalising things. I wasn't saying it was a scandal. I was just saying players shouldn't hold coaches to ransom about where they want to play before they'll sign a contract. As Burgo says, tell them they can be considered in that position and have some time to cement it, but don't promise they're going to play there all the time.

I know you weren't mate, it just seemed to stir up a bit of a storm in a teacup. I don't think a 'promise' means a player gets to keep their spot no matter what, which I think coaches and players would understand, was my meaning.

Not sure about Klem, hasn't set the world on fire the last couple of years, seems to have lost the aggro he had & don't want him to be a Woodsy 2.0

I like him but just not sure what he's worth these days. Certainly not as much as when he signed with the Knights.

Reckon he could be an under the radar bargain, sort of like Tolman. I'd pay $500k to give us that grit and certainty in the middle, and he'd give you value at that price
